Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – June 28, 2013 at Belmont Park

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                  B: Secondary horse to watch

*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd

*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse

* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (4) Wind of Bosphorus (a C last time) steps up off the maiden win and Asmussen claim. Cuts back to a sprint and has flashed speed in the past. (2) One More Cat is tough to ignore off the most recent effort. (3) Partly Mocha seems to be the field’s most consistent performer. Main-Track-Only entrants (10) Stonely the Lonely and (11) Kentucky Pie should battle it out if the rains come as expected.

7th race – (4) Weekend Hideaway (C) just missed last time and we like his chances on turf, but like him even more so on a wet track. (3) Bernie the Jet drops out of the Grade III Hill Prince, but we can draw a big fat line through that race. (5) Dark Roast (C) is swimming in deep water here, but he did break his maiden with a career-best last start. (7) Whiskey Romeo (A) has a big chance if this one is rained off the turf.

8th race – (1) Ornellia (C) must be respected off those last two efforts. (8) Quiet Ending goes third off the layoff and may be especially tough if the turf is less than firm. (6) Victory Island takes a class drop and deserves a long look is this race moves to the main track. (12) Lenders Way is the MTO entrant that looks most promising.

9th race – (2) Private Irving A (D) returns to the claimers where he probably belongs and comes off a race against tougher where he was bumped hard leaving the gate, but was still able to hang close to the lead the entire race. Similar effort to the race two back at this same distance may be enough to win today. (5) Native Singer drops in for as tag after a sharp debut which came under track conditions he may get again today. (8) Mr. G. Zee has run some decent races and is also dropping in from the MSW ranks. (6) Ten Ed offers some value as his two best races have come on the Belmont main track.

Best bet: Weekend Hideaway (7th); Best value: Ornellia (8th); Private Irving A (9th)

No.
