Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – June 30, 2013 at Belmont Park

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                  B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (2) Attenborough (a D last time) should like getting back to the turf here and has a real chance if he can duplicate the Laurel race two-back. (6) Joking takes a healthy drop and should be able to contend at this level. (1a) Vee’s Accolade is the most consistent runner in the field and makes up one-half of a Jacobson entry with (1) Abra.

5th race – (6) Junior Officer (A) moved forward last time and just missed after a 4-wide rally as he ran a nose behind the dead-heat for the top spot.  Similar improvement makes him a strong contender at a price. (1) Quiet Power seemed to find a home when dropping in just below this level last time and looks like the horse to beat. (2) Stonely the Lonely scratched Friday to run here and we have to like him off his most recent effort. (5) Groomedforvictory should contend while dropping to an all-time low.

8th race – (5) Saratoga Snacks (C) appears much the best on paper, but will have to overcome the 6-month layoff. (1) Mine Over Matter bested several of these foes in similar stakes on May 9, but regressed last time out.  Goes out third off the layoff and moves up on a wet track which he may get. (3) Be Bullish is the old workhorse making his 69th start and it’s difficult to leave him out of the trifecta at this level. (2) Willy Beamin is worth including on your tickets at 10-1 morning line in hopes he can regain some of last summer’s magic.

9th race – (5) West Hills Giant (D) took some money last time and is worth a long look here after he took a bad stumble and lost all chance when dropping to this level. (8) Belief System tries turf off two-straight wins. (11) Call for the Clock goes first time on turf, but has shown plenty of talent on dirt. (3) Huge Asset took a big step forward last time and may just get away on the lead as he cuts back in distance. (2b) Escapefromreality is a major threat if this one is rained off the grass.

Best bet: Saratoga Snacks (8th);  Best value: Attenborough (1st)
