Industry and Community Leaders Chosen for Keeneland Board

LEXINGTON, KY (September 18, 2013) – Five industry and community leaders have been tabbed as the newest members of Keeneland’s Advisory Board of Directors.

Ian Banwell, Luther Deaton Jr., Pope McLean Jr., Daisy Phipps Pulito and Bill Shively were elected to the Advisory Board and will begin their service immediately. The board meets semi-annually during Keeneland’s April and October race meetings and represents a cross-section of individuals vital to the Thoroughbred industry, as well as the entire community.

“We are pleased to welcome our newest board members and appreciate their willingness to serve,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “They bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for the Thoroughbred industry and will be valuable additions to the board.”

The new members of Keeneland’s Board of Directors are:

Ian Banwell

Banwell owns St. George Farm in Lexington and along with his wife, Caroline, are active in both breeding and racing Thoroughbreds. Banwell is the CEO and owner of Round Table Investment Management Company and lives in Charlotte, N.C. The Banwells have three children, all of whom are lifelong fans of Keeneland.

Luther Deaton Jr.

Deaton is the Chairman/President and CEO of Central Bank & Trust Co. in Lexington, sponsor of the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1). Deaton serves on the Kentucky Economic Development Partnership Board and previously served on the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the American Bankers Association Board. Deaton resides in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Pope McLean Jr.

McLean is the co-owner and business manager for his family’s 1,000-acre Crestwood Farm in Lexington. He serves on the board of directors and as treasurer of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders. McLean grew up working at Crestwood Farm and resides there with his wife, Lisa, and their three children.

Daisy Phipps Pulito

Phipps is the part owner and racing manager of Phipps Stable. Phipps is a member of The Jockey Club and serves on the board of directors of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. She lives in Lexington with her husband, David, and their two children.

Bill Shively

Shively is the owner of Dixiana Farm in Lexington, which sponsors Keeneland’s Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity (G1) held during the Fall race meet. In 2004, Shively purchased Dixiana Farm, and in 2009 he added neighboring Domino Stud to restore historic Dixiana to its original acreage. He also has ties to the film industry as a movie producer, and lives at Dixiana with his family.
