LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 24, 2012) – Approximately 3,000 fifth-grade students will tour Keeneland next week to learn about the historic race track and the horse industry’s importance to Kentucky as part of a partnership between Keeneland and Fayette County Public Schools.

From Aug. 27-31, 400 to 500 students each day will tour the grandstand, paddock and trackside areas, watch a Thoroughbred auction demonstration and meet Buckles, the Keeneland Kid’s Club mascot. Other activities will include talks by representatives of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital and demonstrations of the Keeneland starting gate.

“We are proud to partner with Fayette County Public Schools to provide this opportunity for students to learn about Keeneland and the vital role of the horse industry both here in the Bluegrass as well as throughout Kentucky,” said Keeneland Vice President and COO Vince Gabbert.

Keeneland provided schools in advance with “The Keeneland Legacy” videos and “Thoroughbred Racing & Sales” books which were reviewed in the classroom prior to the field trips.
