BARN QUOTES
HRTV analyst and former jockey Zoe Cadman, who assists bloodstock adviser Marette Farrell in selecting yearlings
“It’s quality over quantity, and last night you saw the quality shine through. Obviously the ‘now’ horses, like the half to Bodemeister and the half to My Miss Aurelia, really sold well. The next few days I think will be based more on the individual. Last night was about the breeding and the ‘Who’s Who’ in racing.”
Mark Toothaker, consignor
“Last night was very strong. I thought there was a good, widespread variety of buyers. We didn’t have anything in that first session, but it looked very good. Our barn activity has been good for the Book 2 horses. We’ve had a lot of people by; we’ve stayed very steady. I’m very happy.”
Charlie Boden Head of Sales for Darley
“I hope today, tomorrow and the next day are as spirited as it was on Monday. I don’t think there is that much difference in the physical attributes of the [Book 2] horses [compared with Book 1]. They are as nice or nicer than the ones that sold yesterday.”

SPOTLIGHT ON SEPTEMBER SALE GRADUATES
Keeneland September Sale fillies have earned headlines this summer.
Contested has recorded five wins in seven starts, highlighted by victories in the Eight Belles (G3) at Churchill Downs, the TVG Acorn (G1) at Belmont and the Test (G1) at Saratoga. The daughter of Ghostzapper was purchased for $110,000 by Woodliegh Stables from Claiborne Farm, agent (auction video). A half-brother to Contested brought $1.05 million from Jane B. Dunn, agent, the fourth-highest price at Monday’s session.
Elusive Kate has Group 1 wins in the 2011 Total Prix Marcel Boussac-Criterium des Pouliches (G1) at Longchamp and 2012 Prix Rothschild at Deauville. Consigned by Clovelly Farms, the Elusive Quality filly sold for $70,000 to Blandford Bloodstock (auction video).
My Miss Aurelia won the 2011 Frizette (G1) and Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) to earn an Eclipse Award as champion juvenile filly. The Smart Strike filly won the Mandys Gold Stakes in August at Saratoga in her 2012 debut. Owner George Bolton paid $550,000 for My Miss Aurelia from consignor Gainesway, agent for Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings (auction video). Shadwell Estate Company paid $850,000 for a half-brother to My Miss Aurelia on Monday at Keeneland.
