Strong Pace Continues on Monday at Keeneland November Sale

LEXINGTON, KY (Nov. 6, 2012) – Pastilla, a three-year-old filly by Pulpit, sold for $190,000 to James Ryan to top Monday’s session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Out of the stakes-winning Kris S. mare Paiota Falls, Pastilla is from the family of Canadian Horse of the Year and Broodmare of the Year Dance Smartly, Canadian champions Classy ‘n Smart, Sky Classic, Regal Classic, Grey Classic and Dancethruthedawn, and Grade 1 winner and leading sire Smart Strike. She was consigned as a broodmare prospect by Hagyard Farm, agent.

On Monday, Keeneland sold 271 horses for $5,584,700, for an average of $20,608 and a median of $17,000. During the comparable session last year, 284 horses grossed $6,892,600, for an average $24,270 and a median $15,500.

After seven sessions, 1,473 horses have been sold for $130,171,600, for an average of $88,372         and a median of $40,000. For the corresponding period in 2011, 1,628 horses were sold for $196,056,500, for an average of $120,428 and a median of $46,000.

Cumulative totals from 2011 include two premier dispersals – the record dispersal of the estate of Edward P. Evans’ Spring Hill Farm, which sold 162 horses for $55,393,000, and the dispersal of Saud bin Khaled’s Palides Investments N.V., Inc., which sold 20 horses sold for $16,813,000.

When dispersals are excluded from the 2011 cumulative numbers, 1,473 horses have been sold for $130,171,600, an increase of 5.10 percent from 2011 when 1,446 horses brought $123,850,500.  Average price of $88,372 rose 3.18 percent from $85,650 last year, while the median of $40,000 remained unchanged.
