The Ben Ali, named for noted Thoroughbred breeder and financier James Ben Ali Haggin (1821-1914), had its inaugural running at the Kentucky Association track in Lexington in 1917. Last run there in 1922, the Ben Ali was revived at Keeneland in the spring of 1937. From 1943-1945, the Ben Ali was renewed as a part of the Keeneland-at-Churchill Downs meetings.
The $200,000 Ben Ali (G3) is for 4-year-olds and up going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. The nomination fee is $100; nominations close March 29.
