The Alcibiades takes its name from the great foundation mare Alcibiades, who was owned by Hal Price Headley, one of Keeneland’s founders. More than a dozen stakes winners, including Menow, Firm Policy, Salaminia, Lithe, Rash Statement, Secret Hello, Silent Account and Sir Ivor, descend from Alcibiades. Darley began sponsoring the race in 2003.
The $400,000 Darley Alcibiades (G1) will be run on Friday, October 7 for 2yo fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. The nomination fee is $150; nominations close September 21.
The Darley Alcibiades is a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" race for the Juvenile Fillies division.
