The Breeders’ Futurity was inaugurated at the Kentucky Association track in Lexington in 1910 and was renewed every year thereafter through 1930. In 1931-1933, the race was shifted to Latonia in Northern Kentucky. The Futurity was revived at Keeneland in the fall of 1938. From 1943-1945, the Futurity was renewed as a part of the Churchill Downs fall meetings. Claiborne Farm of Paris, Ky., became the sponsor in 2014.
The $500,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) is for 2-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. The winner receives a spot in the starting gate for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) on Nov. 5 at Santa Anita.
Look back at Keeneland September Sale graduate Brody's Cause's victory in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity. The colt returned to the Keeneland Winner's Circle in the Spring of 2016 with a victory in the $1 million Toyota Blue Grass (G1).
