Hotshot Anna Wins Sunday’s Featured Mill Ridge Purse

October 13, 2019

Hugh Robertson’s Hotshot Anna surged past stablemate Aiken to Be at the head of the stretch and then held off a late bid from Rocky Policy by a half-length to win Sunday’s featured $80,000 Mill Ridge Purse for fillies and mares before a sun-soaked crowd of 18,891. Trained by Mac Robertson and ridden by David Cohen, Hotshot Anna covered the 5½ furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:02.80. The victory gave Robertson a training double on the afternoon to go with two runner-up finishes.

A 5-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Trappe Shot out of the Holy Bull mare Avalos, Hotshot Anna has eight wins and three seconds from her past 11 starts. Today’s win increased her earnings by $48,000 to $911,440 with a record of 23-11-6-1.

Hotshot Anna is cataloged as Hip 255 in the premier Book 1 of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale on the Wednesday, Nov. 6, opening day of the auction. Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, has consigned her as a broodmare prospect.

For Sunday’s victory, Hotshot Anna returned $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10. Rocky Policy, ridden by Javier Castellano, returned $4 and $2.80 in finishing a length ahead of May Lily, who paid $3.20 to show under Julien Leparoux.

Racing resumes Wednesday with an eight-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET.
