Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Opens Monday

Auction follows Nov. 6-7 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at track; 13 new supplements announced

Keeneland will begin its 77th November Breeding Stock Sale at noon ET on Monday, Nov. 9, two days after hosting the Breeders’ Cup World Championships for the second time, by offering a premier Book 1 featuring in-foal broodmares, weanlings and racing and broodmare prospects with connections to exciting young stallions and successful established sires. Stallions represented by their first crop of weanlings in the auction include undefeated 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify.

Among the Book 1 offerings are these horses entered in the Breeders’ Cup: Crazy Beautiful (Juvenile Fillies/Hip 244F), Horologist (Distaff/Hip 29), Lady Prancealot (IRE) (Filly and Mare Turf/Hip 48), Oleksandra (AUS) (Turf Sprint/Hip 81) and Ollie’s Candy (Distaff/Hip 83). All are cataloged as racing or broodmare prospects.

For the November Sale, Keeneland’s COVID-19 protocols will remain consistent with the September Yearling Sale with a few adjustments as a result of the Breeders’ Cup, while enhancements successfully introduced in September will continue. Prospective November Sale buyers will be able to participate remotely through online and telephone bidding options, and the new bidding location at the Show Barn next to the Sales Pavilion will be available to allow for proper social distancing.

A total of 3,805 horses have been cataloged to the November Sale, which will cover 10 sessions through Wednesday, Nov. 18. Horses of racing age highlight sessions on Monday, Nov. 16 and Tuesday, Nov. 17 and represent such leading consignors as ELiTE, Lane’s End, Paramount Sales, Taylor Made Sales Agency and WinStar Farm.

The entire November Sale will be streamed live at Keeneland.com.

In addition, TVG2 will present live coverage of the first three sessions of the sale: Nov. 9 from noon to 7 p.m., Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Latest round of supplements announced

Thirteen horses comprise the latest round of supplemental entries to the November Sale.

Supplemented to Book 1 on opening day is:

  • Into Mischief weanling colt (Hip 244H) consigned by Denali Stud, agent. Out of Reve d’Amour, by Warrior’s Reward, he is a full brother to stakes winner Mundaye Call and is from the family of Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.

These horses were supplemented to sessions on Monday, Nov. 16 and Tuesday, Nov. 17 that feature horses of racing age:

  • Bundle Up (Hip 3017A), a 2-year-old daughter of Frosted who is from the family of multiple Grade 1 winner McKinzie. She is consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, as a racing or broodmare prospect.
  • Current (Hip 3017B), a 4-year-old, Grade 3-winning gelding by Curlin who has earned $334,405. He is consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.
  • Challah (Hip 3017C), a 4-year-old gelding by Jimmy Creed who recorded his first win at Del Mar. He is consigned by St George Sales, agent.
  • Irish Territory (IRE) (Hip 3017D), a 5-year-old gelding by Declaration of War who is a winner at Churchill Downs. He is cataloged by St George Sales, agent, as a racing prospect
  • Alex Joon (3017E), a 3-year-old colt by Flatter who is a winner at Churchill. He is cataloged by St George Sales, agent, as a racing prospect.
  • Bob and Jackie (Hip 3017F), a 4-year-old son of Twirling Candy who is a multiple stakes winner and Grade 2-placed in Southern California. Consigned by St George Sales, agent, as a racing prospect, he was third in the Oct. 3 City of Hope Mile (G2) in his most recent start.
  • Aunt Nadine (Hip 3017G), a winning 3-year-old daughter of Munnings from the family of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, as a racing or broodmare prospect, Aunt Nadine won an Oct. 23 allowance race at Keeneland.
  • Blue Gator (Hip 3017H) a stakes-winning, undefeated 2-year-old colt by Liam’s Map. Consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, as a racing or stallion prospect, he won the New York Breeders’ Futurity on Oct. 26. Blue Gator is from the family of Grade 1 winner Bee Jersey.
  • Light Us Up (Hip 3422H), a 2-year-old colt by Upstart who won his debut at Monmouth Park. He is consigned by ELiTE, agent, as a racing or stallion prospect.
  • Maroon Maniac (Hip 3422J), a winning 3-year-old colt by Violence who is consigned by ELiTE, agent, as a racing or stallion prospect. He is from the family of Grade 1 winners Healthy Addiction and My Sweet Addiction.
  • Box N Score (Hip 3422K), a 4-year-old gelding by Lemon Drop Kid who won his career debut at Belmont Park. Consigned by ELiTE, agent, he is a half-brother to recent Breeders’ Stakes winner Belichick.
  • Espressoandacheck (Hip 3422L), a 3-year-old filly by Medaglia d’Oro who is consigned by ELiTE, agent, as a racing or broodmare prospect. She is out of Grade 2 winner Daring Dancer, by Empire Maker.

Keeneland will continue to accept supplemental entries for Book 1 and for the horses of racing age segment of the sale until Sunday, Nov. 8.

Dining options for November Sale expanded

Dining options for the November Sale have been adjusted from what was available during the September Sale while still ensuring the safety of all sales participants.   • The Phoenix Room will be open throughout the sale for an a la carte dine-in option that includes hot offerings.
  • The Limestone Café will have an expanded menu, including grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options, as well as complimentary coffee and tea.
  • The Terrace Bar will provide made-to-order gourmet hamburgers and hot dogs along with a full-service bar.
  • The Pavilion Bar will have warm breakfast in the mornings and a rotating soup bar and sandwiches in the afternoon.
  • Expanded bar service will be available in the Show Barn and the new Brick Patio Bar at the Sales Pavilion entrance.
  • Food trucks with a variety of made-to-order selections, will rotate daily for lunch in the parking lot adjacent to the Sales Pavilion and Show Ring.

Credentials through Virtual Badge again required

As was required for the September Sale, access to the Keeneland grounds for the November Sale will be limited to sales participants who have credentials through the Virtual Badge app. However, credentials from the September Sale will not carry over to the November Sale, and participants should reapply for credentials.

In another continuing protocol from the September Sale, all Keeneland employees, consignors and staff, as well as veterinarians and staff, farriers, van representatives, media and any other essential staff who will be interfacing with the public on a daily basis must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 10 days of their first entry to the Keeneland sales grounds. However, a COVID-19 test does not have to be taken at Keeneland. 

Buyers are not required to receive a COVID-19 test but will pass through a daily health screening at the entrance gates.

On Nov. 6-7, dates of the Breeders’ Cup, a parking credential will be required to access the grounds in addition to the November Sale Virtual Badge credential. Remote bidding options available

As during the September Sale, Keeneland again will provide expanded bidding opportunities for the November Sale to deliver a world-class experience no matter a person’s location. Through the Keeneland Sales Portal, bid online or over the phone for real-time access and live video from the sale.

Prospective buyers should register for an account and establish credit within the Keeneland Sales Portal.

Online bidding: Buyers may watch a real-time video view of the live sale and bid simultaneously from Keeneland’s online bidding platform accessible through their accounts in theKeeneland Sales Portal.

Phone bidding: Buyers can use the Keeneland Sales Portal to participate in bidding on horses by phone. Please notify Keeneland at least 24 hours prior to bidding. A Keeneland representative will call back prior to the bidding.

In-foal broodmares, weanlings represent prominent sires

Champions Mitole and Vino Rosso and Grade 1 winners Omaha Beach and Yoshida (JPN) are among the stallions represented by their first in-foal mares in the catalog. A total of 187 covering sires in the catalog include Always Dreaming, American Pharoah, Arrogate, Bernardini, Candy Ride (ARG), Catholic Boy, City of Light, Constitution, Curlin, Distorted Humor, Ghostzapper, Good Magic, Gun Runner, Into Mischief, Justify, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Not This Time, Outwork, Quality Road, Speightstown, Street Sense, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.

Joining Justify as sires with their first weanlings are 2017 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming, champions Good Magic and West Coast, and Breeders’ Cup winners City of Light and Mendelssohn.

Among the 170 sires with weanlings in the catalog are American Pharoah, Arrogate, Bernardini, Constitution, Curlin, Distorted Humor, Empire Maker, Flatter, Ghostzapper, Gun Runner, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Lope de Vega (IRE), Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Not This Time, Nyquist, Outwork, Pioneerof the Nile, Practical Joke, Quality Road, Speightstown, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front. 

November Sale graduates among Breeders’ Cup entrants

This weekend’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland will include graduates of the November Sale who were offered at the sale as weanlings and horses of racing age. 

Leading the entrants who were weanlings at the November Sale is Improbable, the morning-line favorite for the $6 million Classic (G1). Others include After Five (Turf Sprint), Archidust(Turf Sprint), Camp Hope (Juvenile), Chaos Theory (Turf Sprint), Diamond Oops (Sprint), Front Run the Fed (Turf Sprint), Gypsy King (Juvenile Turf Sprint), Knicks Go (Dirt Mile), Mutasaabeq (Juvenile Turf), Outadore (Juvenile Turf), Serengeti Empress (Filly and Mare Sprint), Sittin On Go (Juvenile) and United (Turf).

Offered as a horse of racing age at the November Sale was Starship Jubilee (Filly and Mare Turf).
