Keeneland Spring Lager to Benefit Blue Grass Farms Charities

March 26, 2021

Keeneland and Country Boy Brewing of Lexington have collaborated to create Keeneland Spring Lager, which debuts today around Kentucky and will be sold at the track to celebrate the Spring Meet. Through a unique fundraising component, sales of the beer will benefit Blue Grass Farms Charities (BGFC).

Country Boy describes the Keeneland Spring Lager as “a clean, crisp and highly drinkable German Lager that pairs perfectly with the spring season. The smooth, malt-forward flavor is supported by an understated floral hop presence, restrained bitterness and a refreshingly dry finish.”

Beginning today, the Keeneland Spring Lager will be available throughout Kentucky on draft and in six-packs of cans. Stores scheduled to carry the beer include Keeneland Mercantile, Kroger, Liquor Barn, Total Wine and independent retailers. The beer also will be sold at Keeneland during the 15-day Spring Meet from April 2-23.

For every case of beer they sell, Country Boy and beverage distributor Kentucky Eagle, a sponsor with Keeneland since 1998, each will donate $1 to BGFC.

“We are always honored to work with Keeneland, as they are a staple in the Central Kentucky community,” Country Boy Production Manager Daniel Sinkhorn said. “Being able to share a pint and give back through Blue Grass Farm Charities is a perfect way to showcase this beer.”

Sales of the Keeneland Spring Lager and of Country Boy’s Keeneland Fall Ale will support BGFC’s Back to School Backpack Program, which provides school supplies for nearly 1,000 children whose parents work in Keeneland’s stable area and on Central Kentucky farms and ensure the health and well-being of equine athletes.

Julie Berry, Executive Director of BGFC, is excited about the opportunity.

“The Keeneland Spring Lager is another great reason to enjoy a delicious Country Boy beer,” Berry said. “We are so grateful to Country Boy, Kentucky Eagle and Keeneland for their trust and support of our mission.”

Founded in 2003, BGFC is a non-profit that provides health and human services to those working in the Thoroughbred racing community. BGFC is the recipient of the 2020 William T. Young Humanitarian Award from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders (KTOB)/Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA). The award will be presented to the organization during the
April 7 KTOB/KTA Champion Kentucky-Bred Awards Luncheon at Keeneland.

“Keeneland is proud of its partnership with Country Boy and the unique opportunity we have with Country Boy and Kentucky Eagle to benefit such a worthwhile organization as Blue Grass Farms Charities,” Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin said. “Every day we see the great work of BGFC to make a difference in the lives of the people who devote themselves to caring for racehorses.”
