Keeneland September Sale Alumni Catholic Boy, Roaring Lion Capture G1 Wins at Home and Abroad

July 9, 2018

Catholic Boy and Roaring Lion, both alumni of Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale, won on the world’s biggest stages on Saturday. Catholic Boy won the $1.2 million Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) by a head over favoredAnalyze It, also a 2016 September Sale graduate, following a thrilling stretch duel. Roaring Lion closed in the final yards to take the Coral-Eclipse (G1) at Sandown in England by a neck.

In other racing, Diversify cruised to a front-running, 6½-length victory in the Suburban (G2) at Belmont, and Marley’s Freedom was much the best in the Great Lady M (G2) at Los Alamitos.

Matera Sky, a graduate of the 2014 November Breeding Stock and 2015 September Sale, established a track record in winning Japan’s Procyon (G3) on Sunday.
