Won first Keeneland race during the 2007 Fall Meet.

First Keeneland stakes win was the 2008 Shakertown (G3) with Mr. Nightlinger. Won the race again in 2014 with Marchman.

Trained Dubai Majesty, winner of the 2009 Buffalo Trace Franklin County. A year later, she won the Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) en route to a victory in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and the Eclipse Award as champion female sprinter.

2016 earnings were $4,357,325 with 146 wins, including the Dwyer (G3) with Fish Trappe Road.

2015 earnings were $5,205,646 with 177 wins, including the Eight Belles (G3) with Promise Me Silver and the Bashford Manor (G3) with He’s Comin in Hot, both at Churchill, and the Delta Downs Princess (G3) with Jet Black Magic.

2014 earnings were $5,260,134 with 168 wins. Won three Grade 3 stakes: Shakertown and Twin Spires Turf Sprint, both with Marchman, and Eight Belles with Fiftyshadesofgold.

Background


Bret’s father, William “Buddy” Calhoun, owned and trained Thoroughbreds at Louisiana Downs. The two claimed a few horses together and Bret began training them, taking out his trainer’s license in 1993. He saddled his first runners the following year.
