LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 20, 2013) – Juddmonte Farms’ favored Preferential (GB) found room along the inside at midstretch to win the 22nd running of the $125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager for fillies and mares by a half-length over Left a Message before a crowd of 15,635 on Sunday afternoon at Keeneland.

Trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, Preferential raced just off the pace set by Cash for Clunkers while running closest to the rail.

Kenny McCarthy (assistant to Bill Mott, winning trainer of Preferential [GB])

“I think it’s been a little bit of a learning process for us, understanding what she really wants to do. From her last race (a second in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon on Sept. 7), we learned an awful lot. (Jockey) Leandro (Goncalves) really fit her well, and we felt pretty confident coming in here today. The trip was a little rough the whole way around, but at the end when he called on her she really answered.”

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 19, 2013) – Mr. and Mrs. Marc Ferrell’s Madame Cactus, who drew into the race off the also-eligible list because of two scratches, collared Eden Prairie in the final strides to win the 15th running of the $250,000 Lexus Raven Run (G2) for 3-year-old fillies by a neck before a crowd of 19,196 on a brisk and overcast Saturday afternoon at Keeneland.

Peter Eurton (winning trainer of Madame Cactus)

On drawing into the race today following the scratches of two horses

“It’s been a fun week. Coming in on Tuesday, knowing about 9 o’clock in the morning when I’m getting on a plane that we’re possibly not gonna get in the race and she’s already there. The racing secretary said there’s a good chance we might get a scratch or two, and thank God we did.”

On winning the race with a horse owned by the race’s sponsor, Josephine Abercrombie’s Pin Oak Stable LLC

“There was a lot of pressure today because she sponsors this race. We came down here (from Woodbine in Toronto) thinking we had a chance. It’s a lot of fun to win.
