LEXINGTON, KY (April 26, 2013) – Owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey reached another milestone during Keeneland’s 16-day spring meet when their Dark Cove captured the 28th running of the $150,000 Elkhorn Stakes (G2) before 19,216 fans on closing day. With the victory, the Ramseys recorded their eighth graded stakes win at the track and received a gold tray that is part of Keeneland’s signature graded stakes trophy program.

Only 17 other owners in track history have achieved such an honor.

Keeneland’s 2013 Spring Meeting Concludes with Abundance of Records

LEXINGTON, KY (April 29, 2013) – Keeneland concluded its 2013 spring race meeting Friday with a number of records, including all-sources handle and attendance, as well as most wins by an owner, trainer and jockey.

All-sources wagering on Keeneland’s 16-day spring meeting, including wagering at Keeneland on imported simulcast signals, was a record $161,990,603, with a daily average of $10,124,413, compared to the previous record of $158,368,309 set during the 15-day 2007 spring meeting that averaged $10,557,887 per day.

Ken Ramsey (owner of winner Dark Cove)

“I can’t believe we’ve doubled the old record of 12 wins (in a single Keeneland meet). To win 24 is unbelievable. The low point about today is my wife (Sarah) had to be taken to the hospital yesterday. She’s not doing that well but nothing life-threatening. That’s the only sad part, that she’s not able to be here with me. But this is almost like heaven.”

Rosario Wins Bewitch On Longshot During Five-Win Day

LEXINGTON, KY (April 25, 2013) – Despite his dominating performance during the Keeneland spring meet, jockey Joel Rosario was overlooked by handicappers and rode 18-1 longshot Strathnaver (GB) to win the 52nd running of the $150,000 Bewitch Stakes (G3) before 11,921 fans on Thursday. The victory was one of Rosario’s five wins on the day on which he broke the spring meet record of 32 victories set by Randy Romero in 1990.

Quotes - $150,000 Bewitch Stakes (G3)

Graham Motion (trainer of winner Strathnaver [GB])

“I thought she was very impressive that day at Gulfstream (winning an allowance race on March 16 in her first U.S. start). Like I said to Joel, I just wasn’t sure about the mile and a half. But clearly she handled it pretty good.”

Joel Rosario (rider of Strathnaver)

“I got a perfect trip. (Trainer) Graham (Motion) told me to just let her do whatever she wants and she did it.”
