Keeneland’s Shadwell Turf Mile Worth $1 Million for 2014

LEXINGTON, KY (July 29, 2014) – Keeneland, in partnership with Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Shadwell Farm, announced today that the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) will carry a purse of $1 million for its 29th running on Saturday, Oct. 4.

With the increase, the Shadwell Turf Mile becomes Keeneland’s first stakes worth $1 million and will rank as one of North America’s richest races held at a mile on the turf. 

Shadwell Farm has sponsored the Turf Mile, for horses 3 years old and older, since 1999. The purse was increased to $750,000 in 2012.

Keeneland Announces 2014 Fall Meet Stakes Schedule

Sponsors Claiborne, Dixiana and Lane’s End PushTotal Purses for 17 Stakes to $4.925 Million 

LEXINGTON, KY (June 10, 2014) – Keeneland will offer 17 stakes worth a total of $4.925 million during its 2014 Fall Meet from Oct. 3-25. The 17-day season will award approximately $600,000 in average daily purses as one of the richest racing programs in North America, while Keeneland debuts a state-of-the-art dirt surface on the main track and features races for horses headed to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Claiborne Farm to Sponsor Keeneland’s Breeders’ Futurity

LEXINGTON, KY (April 22, 2014) – The Hancock family’s Claiborne Farm has become the signature sponsor of Keeneland’s Breeders’ Futurity (G1), to be held Saturday, Oct. 4.

The purse for the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity will increase from $400,000 to $500,000 in 2014. The stakes, for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, is a part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series in which the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

Lane’s End to Sponsor Keeneland’s Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup

LEXINGTON, KY (April 17, 2014) – William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm has entered into a multiyear agreement with Keeneland to become the signature sponsor of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1), an internationally renowned invitational for 3-year-old fillies on the turf, to be held Saturday, Oct. 11.

The purse for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup will increase from $400,000 to $500,000.
