Keeneland Racing and Sales Have Strong Showing at Breeders’ Cup World Championships

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 31, 2017) – Sixty-six Keeneland sales graduates and 28 horses that raced and/or trained here during the recently concluded Fall Meet headline entries for the 34th running of the more than $28 million Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday at Del Mar.

Through 2016, 95 graduates of Keeneland sales have won 103 Breeders’ Cup races. The Fall Meet has produced 42 horses that have won 45 Breeders’ Cup races.

Keeneland Concludes Memorable Fall Race Meet

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 28, 2017) – Keeneland successfully closed its 2017 Fall Meet on Saturday, one that featured 17 days of superlative racing and unique special events that combined to produce the second-highest Fall Meet attendance in track history and solid wagering results.

The Player Wins Closing-Day Hagyard Fayette

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 28, 2017) – Trainer Buff Bradley and Carl Hurst’s The Player wore down Neolithic in the stretch and pulled away to a three-length victory in the 60thrunning of $200,000 Hagyard Fayette (G2) before 14,310 fans on closing day of Keeneland’s 17-day Fall Meet.

KEENELAND FALL MEET REPRESENTED BY 31 HORSES PRE-ENTERED IN BREEDERS’ CUP

Thirty-one horses that raced or trained at Keeneland during the 17-day Fall Meet, which concludes today, were pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar on Nov. 3-4. (Three horses – Golden Dragon, Princess Warrior and Stainless – were pre-entered in two races.)

Burma Road Wins Friday’s Featured Machmer Hall Purse

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 27, 2017) – Burma Road, a homebred racing for Suzi Shoemaker’s Lantern Hill Farm of Midway, Kentucky, held off favored Proud Reunion to score a nose victory in Friday’s $69,000 Machmer Hall Purse before a crowd of 16,443. (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Races Tight For Fall Meet Leading Horsemen

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 27, 2017) – With two days remaining in Keeneland’s Fall Meet, the races for leading owner, trainer and jockey remain competitive.

RICARDO SANTANA JR. TAKES AIM AT FIRST KEENELAND RIDING TITLE

As a teenager attending jockey school in his native Panama, Ricardo Santana Jr. said he watched Keeneland races on TV and imagined himself one day riding here. Now, with two days remaining in the 17-day Keeneland Fall Meet, he has 15 wins and is taking aim on his first leading rider title here.

“Keeneland is one of my dream race tracks,” said the 23-year-old rider, who is having his most productive Fall Meet since he became a regular during the October season in 2013. His success includes winning three races on a single program on Oct. 14 and Oct. 25.

SIX HORSES POINTED TO BREEDERS’ CUP WORK FRIDAY MORNING

Four horses pre-entered in the 34th Breeders’ Cup World Championships Nov. 3-4 at Del Mar each worked 4 furlongs Friday on a fast Keeneland track after the morning renovation break, and later in the morning another two Breeders’ Cup pre-entrants worked 4 furlongs over the firm turf course.
