Race Tracker Guidry Finds New Career as an Agent

Mark Guidry tried to get the race track out of his system. There were dalliances with golf and fishing and other activities but nothing filled the void created when he retired from riding in 2007 after 33 years in the saddle.

“I’m an old race tracker and I’m going to die an old race tracker because there ain’t nothing like it,” Guidry said recently while at Keeneland.

Oliver Sends Out Personal Diary and Annulment in Bewitch

With four wins, one second and two thirds in 15 starts during the first 13 days of Keeneland’s 2016 Spring Meet, trainer Vicki Oliver has recorded her best season here to date.

Three days remain in the meet, and Oliver has three chances to add to that total. She has two horses entered today and on Friday will send out a pair of runners in the $150,000 Bewitch (G3), Personal Diary and Annulment. One of those mares could give Oliver her first Keeneland stakes win.

Reeve McGaughey Returns to Keeneland as Assistant to His Famous Father

A familiar face with a familiar name is back at Keeneland.

Reeve McGaughey, who handled two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan during the four years he worked for his uncle, trainer Charlie LoPresti, is here during the Spring Meet as the assistant to his father, Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey. The younger McGaughey, who is nearing his 27th birthday, is overseeing a 12-horse string.

Servis Leans Toward Kentucky Oaks After Bullet Work From Cathryn Sophia

Cash is King LLC’s Cathryn Sophia, third in the Central Bank Ashland (G1) here April 9, breezed five furlongs in :59.60 Saturday after the renovation break with Paco Lopez aboard. The move, which marked her first work since the race, was the fastest of the morning for five furlongs. (Click here for a video of the work.)

Kentucky Derby Favorite Nyquist Works Five Furlongs in 1:01.80

Reddam Racing’s Nyquist, the favorite for the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1), continued his preparations for the 142nd Run for the Roses by working five furlongs in 1:01.80 over a fast track at Keeneland shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday. (Click here for a video of the work.)

At Wagering Central, contestants can sign up to play for a $10 entry fee, then make a mythical $2 win and place wager on Keeneland races 3 through 8. The contest offers a guaranteed $2,500 pool, and the first 200 participants receive a free Daily Racing Form and a card for a free appetizer at Malone’s.
