Dance With Fate Cruises to Victory in 90th Toyota Blue Grass

LEXINGTON, KY (April 12, 2014) – Sharon Alesia, Bran Jam Stable and Ciaglia Racing’s Dance With Fate swept past pace-setting Pablo Del Monte at midstretch and had more than enough to hold off Medal Count by 1 3/4 lengths to win the 90th running of the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass (G1) for 3-year-olds before a sun-splashed crowd of 39,722 at Keeneland on Saturday.

Extrasexyhippzster Works for Toyota Blue Grass

Kirwan Equine Group Inc. and Ed Hipps’ Extrasexyhippzster worked five furlongs in company in 1:00 on a cool, clear Sunday morning at Keeneland.

With jockey Stewart Elliott up, Exxtrasexyhippzster started four lengths behind workmate War Ready and posted fractions of :12.80, :24.80, :36.20 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.40. Extrasexyhippzster finished two lengths back at the wire and drew even on the gallop out.

Keeneland Schedules 16 Stakes Worth $3.725 Million for 2014 Spring Meet

Purse Increases for Beaumont and Elkhorn

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 14, 2013) – Sixteen stakes worth a total of $3.725 million, boosted by purse increases for the Beaumont Presented by Keeneland Select (G2) and Elkhorn (G2), headline Keeneland’s 2014 spring race meet, to be held April 4-25. 

Two-time Blue Grass Stakes-winning trainer Harvey L. Vanier dies

Harvey L. Vanier, who saddled two winners of the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland during his long training career, died Dec. 1 in Versailles, Ky. He was 89.

Vanier sent out his first Keeneland winner during the 1951 fall meeting and won 143 races here through the 2006 fall season. He was the leading trainer during the 1987 spring meeting when he won seven races.

In 1983, Vanier sent out 19-1 longshot Play Fellow to win the Blue Grass. The colt raced for Vanier’s wife, Nancy, and partners Carl Lauer and Robert Victor.
