Newsdad Rallies to Two-Length Victory in Fayette

LEXINGTON, KY (October 27, 2012) – James Karp’s Newsdad closed from seventh in a field of 10 at the head of the stretch to wear down Take Charge Indy and win the 55th running of the $150,000 Fayette (G2) by two lengths over Nikki’s Sandcastle before a closing-day crowd of 14,737 at Keeneland on Saturday.

Newsdad was ridden to victory by Julien Leparoux, who became the first jockey in the history of the race to win in three consecutive years. Leparoux won on Successful Dan in 2010 and Wise Dan in 2011.

Quotes - $150,000 Fayette (G2)

Kenny McCarthy (assistant to Bill Mott, winning trainer of Newsdad)

“It was not our game planning going out there to be that far back, to be honest with you. He’s got a big cruising speed so we thought he’d be a little closer. Leaving the gate, he looked like he stumbled just slightly and then after that, you have to leave it up to your jockey. I thought Julien (Leparoux) did a great job on him. Just tucked him in the first turn, let him go extend himself down the backside and came very smoothly into the stretch.”
