LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 4, 2017) – For Delectation (GB), the lone European invader for Saturday’s 20th running of the $400,000 First Lady (G1), coming to Keeneland is a whole new ballgame.

“This is completely different than what she has at home,” said Christa Germann, assistant to trainer Andreas Wohler. “There she is at a private grounds with 100 horses.”

Hawksmoor Targets First Lady in Keeneland Return

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 3, 2017) – When Hawksmoor (IRE) made her first foray to Keeneland last year, she was a bit of an unknown commodity entering the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane’s End (G1).

Then trained by Hugo Palmer, Hawksmoor had been holding her own with the top fillies in Europe and finished third in QE II, beaten only a head for all the money.

Quotes - $400,000 First Lady (G1)

Jimmy Bell (president of Darley, representing winning owner Godolphin Racing LLC, lessee)

“Today she was ‘Better Lucky.’ Last couple of times she’s been a little unlucky, took wide trips and ran great races. We’ve been looking at this race for quite a while. Julien (Leparoux) gave her a great ride and (trainer) Tommy (Albertrani) had her to the minute tuned up. We were Better Lucky today and got it done.”

Quotes - $350,000 First Lady (G1)

Dale Romans (winning trainer of Tapitsfly)

“She has been a special filly. She’s probably going to retire at the end of this year. She’s going to have one or two more starts left so we’ve got to pick some place that’s going to count. The Breeders’ Cup is tough because for the fillies, she has to run so far (1 1/4 miles in the Grade 1 Filly & Mare Turf) unless we decide to put her in against the colts (in the Grade 1 Mile). But we’ve done sillier things.”
