Market for Quality Horses Strong as January Sale Concludes

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 15, 2015) Keeneland’s 57th annual January Horses of All Ages Sale, which ended Thursday, continued to indicate market stability, prompting buyers to compete with confidence for quality individuals and resulting in the sale-topping $2.2 million price, the highest January Sale figure since 2008, for the Group 2 stakes-winning and classic-placed Galileo (IRE) mare Up (IRE), in foal to leading sire War Front.

$150,000 Yearling Colt Tops Wednesday Session of Keeneland January Sale

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 14, 2015) – A yearling colt by Into Mischief sold for $150,000 on Wednesday to top the third session of the 57th annual Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

J. S. B. Stable purchased the colt, the first foal of the winning Cherokee Run mare Cayala and from the family of Grade 1 winners Albertus Maximus and Daredevil. He was consigned by Kingswood Farm, agent.

Up (IRE) Commands $2.2 Million Tuesday at Keeneland January

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 13, 2015) – The sale of Group 2 winner and classic-placed Up (IRE), a 6-year-old daughter of Galileo (IRE) in foal to War Front, for $2.2 million and her first foal, a yearling filly by War Front, for $800,000 highlighted Tuesday’s second session of the 57th annual Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Irish-bred Premier Steps Tops Opening Day of Keeneland January Sale

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 12, 2015) – Stakes winner Premier Steps (IRE) sold for $400,000 to lead Monday’s opening session of the 57th annual Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. Shadai Farm of Japan purchased the 5-year-old daughter of Footstepsinthesand who was cataloged a racing or broodmare prospect.

Keeneland January Sale Starts Monday

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 8, 2015) – Keeneland begins its 57th January Horses of All Ages Sale on Monday, Jan. 12. A total of 1,610 horses were cataloged to the sale, which runs through Jan. 15.

Keeneland Catalogs 1,610 Horses for 2015 January Sale

LEXINGTON, KY (Dec. 3, 2014) – Keeneland has cataloged 1,610 horses for its 57th January Horses of All Ages Sale, which will be held Jan. 12-15, 2015. The January Sale is noted for its robust trade in high-quality racing and broodmare prospects and short yearlings.

“The strong results of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale confirmed the resurgence in the Thoroughbred market,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Walt Robertson said. “We look for the momentum of that sale to continue in January.”

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 4, 2014) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate Sweet Reason captured her third career Grade 1 stakes in winning the Longines Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on Saturday.




Keeneland January Sale Concludes With Vigor

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 9, 2014) – Keeneland’s 56th January Horses of All Ages Sale, which closed Thursday, continued the auction season driven by positive signs for the Thoroughbred industry with participation from a deeply diverse buying bench, robust trade and exceptional strength at all levels of the market.

Gross receipts for the four-day January Sale, held Jan. 6-9, totaled $41,025,700 for 1,027 horses. The average price was $39,947, and the median price was $20,000.

Full Sister to Tapicat Brings $125,000 to Open Thursday Session of January Sale

The fourth and final session of Keeneland’s January Horse of All Ages Sale got off to a fast start on Thursday when City to Farm Stable paid $125,000 for a full sister to 2013 Florida Oaks (G3) winner Tapicat.

Consigned by Considine Farm, agent, the filly is by leading sire Tapit out of the Storm Cat mare Zealous Cat, and from the family of champion older mare Track Robbery.

Young Mares in Demand on Wednesday at Keeneland January Sale

Young fillies and mares highlight the early activity during Wednesday’s session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Fleetwood Bloodstock’s Tim McCurry, on behalf of Northwest Farms’ Jerre Paxton, went to $310,000 for Lady Kierkegaard (Hip 1008), a 5-year-old mare by Arch out of the winning Mr. Prospector mare Realm. Lady Kierkegaard is half-sister to Haint, winner of the Miller Genuine Draft Cradle Stakes, and graded stakes-placed Play With Fire. Lady Kierkegaard was consigned by Winter Quarter Farm, agent.
