Keeneland Sales Graduates Look to Continue Tradition of Success in Travers

Sales Alumni Have Won Past Four Runnings of the Historic Travers

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 22, 2014) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates Wicked Strong, Kid Cruz and V. E. Day each seek to become the fifth consecutive Keeneland-sold winner of the Saturday’s Travers (G1) at Saratoga, following champion Will Take Charge (2013), Golden Ticket (2012, dead-heat), Stay Thirsty (2011) and Afleet Express (2010). Wicked Strong won the Jim Dandy (G2), a traditional prep for the Midsummer Derby.

Keeneland Sales Graduate Hardest Core Overcomes the Odds to Win Arlington Million

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 18, 2014) – Keeneland sales alum Hardest Core rallied in late stretch to upset a strong field of turf horses in Saturday’s Arlington Million (G1) at Arlington Park. Gregory Bentley purchased the son of Hard Spun for $210,000 at Keeneland’s 2013 November Breeding Stock Sale as a 30th birthday gift for his son, Andrew, who was born with Down syndrome. Hardest Core nearly lost his life when gelded after the November Sale, but returned to the races to be undefeated in three starts this season.

Keeneland Sales Graduates Take Center Stage in Grade 1 Stakes

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 15, 2014) – Thirty-nine Keeneland sales graduates are entered in graded stakes on a spectacular weekend (Aug. 16-17) of racing across the country. Nineteen of those sales alumni are competing in the featured six Grade 1 events, including promising stakes winner Hardest Core in the Arlington Million (G1); two-time Grade 1 stakes winner and morning-line favorite Stephanie’s Kitten in the Beverly D.

The well-bred Take Charge Brandi, second in the recent Schuylerville (G3) and Cavorting, an impressive 11-length maiden winner, go postward in the Adirondack (G2), while the talented graded stakes-placed Mr. Z is among the four Keeneland-sold 2-year-olds – Lord Tyrion, Tizcano and Majestic Affair – competing in the Toyota Saratoga Special (G2).

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 4, 2014) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate Sweet Reason captured her third career Grade 1 stakes in winning the Longines Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on Saturday.




Keeneland Sales Grads Palace Malice, Will Take Charge Seek Whitney Win

LEXINGTON, KY (Aug. 1, 2014) – Five of the nine outstanding older horses entered for Saturday’s Whitney Handicap (G1) at Saratoga are graduates of Keeneland sales, led by classic and multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Palace Malice, champion and 2013 Travers (G1) winner Will Take Charge and 2012 Travers winner Golden Ticket.  As a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” race, the winner of the Whitney earns an automatic berth into the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

LEXINGTON, KY (July 25, 2014) – Fifty-two Keeneland sales graduates headline an exciting weekend of racing on both East and West coasts. On Saturday, Grade 1 stakes winner Wicked Strong and Grade 3 winner Kid Cruz are entered in the Jim Dandy (G2) at Saratoga, while at Del Mar, multiple graded stakes winner Frac Daddy is favored in the San Diego Handicap (G2).

Keeneland September Sale Alumni Tom’s Tribute, Stopchargingmaria Earn Grade 1 Wins.

LEXINGTON, KY (July 21, 2014) – Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates Tom’s Tribute and Stopchargingmaria each were impressive in capturing their first Grade 1 wins, taking Sunday’s Eddie Read (G1) at Del Mar and the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Saratoga, respectively. September Sale alumni also scored significant juvenile stakes victories this weekend: Big Trouble won the Sanford (G2) while Fashion Alert took the Schuylerville (G3), both at Saratoga.
