Race 1: LATE NIGHT LU (7) could be tough with a sharp break and a clean trip for his second time over the track this season. CASA CREEK (4) returns to a sprint with a new rider aboard. GOLDEN STORY (5) should like the return to a sprint for his third time out.
Race 2: MAGNOLIA LANE (10) exits an improved effort as she makes her third start off the break and she ran well here last year. PRINCESS MARIAH (2) could inherit the lead from the rail. She has two solid efforts on the grass. CAT’S CLAW (1A) has nice works and is a strong closer for a top notch stable.
Race 3: BELLARMINE (7) has been the betting favorite that needs to show a little more as he makes his third start off the long layoff. He broke his maiden here at the distance and barn having a good meeting. ZANE (3) leads into the race in sharp form. Bounce factor? ONLY IN AMERICA (4) should be part of the early pace and has solid works leading up to this race.
Race 4: BARZINI (2) was shuffled back and ended up with a wide trip last time out. New rider aboard and could show us more with a better trip. EXPECTING CASH (9) drew away from the field to win by 4 ½ furlongs. He moves up in class in sharp form. STRONG RESOLVE (6) is a sharp closer that was beat by second choice, but should improve in this spot today.
Race 5: ENCHANTING LISA (1) has a lot of class in her pedigree being WISE DAN’s half sister. She is consistent and has a good series of workouts for a big return as a 4yo. CONCISE (7) has kept nice company and barn does well off the bench (15%). MAGICAL STEPS (3) may need a race, but she ran well here last October.
Race 6: BUCK MAGIC (12) should like the return to 7 furlongs and he runs with blinkers off. Sharp drills in the a.m. SEAL SIX (11) has a bullet workout on 4/12. He may be better as a sprinter as he cuts back in distance. MOON GUN (2) gets an inside post and barn adds the hood to possible improve today at 15-1 odds.
Race 7: The $100k Giant’s Causeway Stakes – BELIEVE IN CHARLIE (4) beat the top choice last time winning the Lady’s Turf Sprint Stakes and will be a major player just off the pace at short odds. ALLWEWANTFORXMAS (2) gets a brief freshening after finishing second in her last two starts facing stakes company. AGELESS (11) was far back early in her last race and managed to finish third. Mare picks up solid turf rider Leparoux.
Race 8: The G3 Ben Ali Stakes – NORUMBEGA (1) was sharp in his first start of the year for solid connections. He has several wins at the distance and should be a tough customer second start off the break. WINNING CAUSE (6) runs back quickly after he ran second behind impressive winner EXCAPER last time out. NEWSDAD (10) has won twice here on the poly and leads into the race off a win in a grade 2 event. Deep closer should be able to handle the outside draw.
Race 9: The G3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes – DIVINE OATH (6) leads into the race undefeated and has faced tough competition in his lightly raced career. He appears to be the strongest runner of the three Pletcher trainees. MR. SPEAKER (1) just missed last time out when he was beat by GALA AWARD in a graded stakes race. He has tactical speed and is the one to beat if he likes the poly. Good work over the local surface. AMI’S HOLIDAY (7) is well-bred colt that started his career off right with a grade 3 win as a 2yo. Colt has been training well to run big off the break.
Race 10: WONDERFUL MISS BEA (9) runs for a lesser maiden tag and competes second time going route. TOHAVEANDTOHOLD (4) has several works to be ready at first asking for a sharp debut barn (22%), but make sure the price is right. AMERICAN BEAUTY (7) runs with blinkers on and gets in light with a bug rider.
