Race 1: HAUNTED HEROINE (5) should be tough with two races this year and a win over the surface at the distance. Filly should be forwardly placed from the gate in a race lacking early speed. FRIVOLOUS (4) has class, but may prefer a longer distance. She does perform well at Keeneland. FORTUNE PEARL (6) faces older fillies and mares for the first time and hasn’t raced in eight months, but she likes the distance and competes for a sharp barn off layoffs (22%).
Race 2: TAGHLEEB (8) just missed from off the pace last time out as he leads into the race in top form for a top-notch stable. EMPIRE KNIGHT (1A) deserves another look after he was checked during his last race. He’s won the last the three out of four starts for the Ramsey’s. HIGHBALL (2) face easier company after he finished in the exotics against stakes company the last four starts.
Race 3: WISECRACKER (8) looks the best on paper and should be tough with an outside draw second time going route. BLUEGRASS BEAT (1) improved at the longer distance and should continue to move forward today. JAPAN (6) was the beaten favorite on debut in a full field at Gulfstream. The well-bred colt should improve under the hands of trainer Mott second time out.
Race 4: BIG BLUE KITTEN (1) is a sharp closer on the grass as he makes his first start of the year. He performs well off the bench and should be a major threat with his consistency. PATRIOTICANDPROUD (3) is training well for a comeback performance after he was beat in the G1 Santa Anita Handicap at long odds. He’s back where he belongs on the grass. WAR DANCER (6) runs for a competitive turf outfit this outing and competes well over this turf course.
Race 5: YOCKEY’S WARRIOR (8) was an impressive maiden winner first time out. TWO WEEKS OFF (7) should be tough stalking the pace at short odds off a long layoff. SILVER RIDE (4) exits a key race and likes this dirt course.
Race 6: The G1 Madison Stakes
LADY SABELIA (4) has three consistent works since her last win as she goes for five straight victories. Mare has early speed/ stalking ability to be a major player from the gate. STOPCHARGINGMARIA (3) is full of class, but hopefully can keep up as she turns back in distance. SAM’S SISTER (1) is sharp at the distance with tactical speed.
Race 7: The G3 Commonwealth Stakes
ROCKET TIME (4) should be on or near the lead plus he has a good workout over the course (WR) to be ready for his biggest task to date. BOURBON COURAGE (3) continues to improve in the morning (WR) over the local course hoping for a repeat of his last win at Keeneland. C. ZEE (7) won a graded stakes last time out as he leads into this race in top form.
Race 8: The G3 Shakertown Stakes
POWER ALERT (10) won his last two starts going short on the grass. SOMETHING EXTRA (4) should be quick on the front if ready off the long break. UNDRAFTED (13) should be tough late in a race full of early speed, but may prefer a longer distance.
Race 9: The G1 Ashland Stakes
ANGELA RENEE (4) needs a clean getaway to be a contender in stalking position today. LOVELY MARIA (6) is very consistent and versatile to be a major threat to top choice in back to back races. PEACE AND WAR (3) hopes for a repeat of her grade 1 victory over the local track as she returns off a long winter break.
Race 10: The G1 Blue Grass Stakes
CARPE DIEM (5) has been a very impressive 3yo so far in his lightly raced career. The high purchased ($1.5 million) colt has a tremendous amount of talent and two graded stakes victories. He should be forwardly placed from the gate as he faces seven other derby hopefuls in today’s derby prep at Keeneland. Classy Class (7) has two strong performances against another top rated 3yo, EL Kabeir, and should be tough from off the pace. OCHO OCHO OCHO (1) exits a rough trip and hopes to make a turnaround second start off the break. He won the grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot last November.
Race 11: HIGH RIDGE ROAD (4) has a good series of works leading up to her debut race. She is bred for speed and the barn wins at 22% with first time starters. CAROLINA JASMINE (8) likes to finish second against maiden allowance foes and should be tough from gate to wire with her early speed. GROOVY A (7) improved in her last start at 7-2 odds. She gets a top rider in the irons third time out.
