Please note that selections typically are available about 48 hours in advance of the race.
Katie Mikolay Gensler's first exposure to racing came at a young age, attending Arlington Park with her family on weekends when she grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She has been the racing analyst at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, Louisiana for the last three years. In addition to hosting the daily Churchill Downs Simulcast Network production of live Fair Grounds racing, Mikolay co-hosts the pre-race Fair Grounds Today show. She also contributes to FairGroundsRaceCourse.com as both a handicapper and blogger during the live Thoroughbred meeting and has made special appearances on HRTV and NBC Sports. During the summers, she performs similar duties at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania for the 100-day race meet for the last five years. As an advocate for fan education, Katie has teamed up with America's Best Racing to teach wagering and produce racing 101 videos to increase horse racing awareness. She has been married to Thoroughbred horse trainer, Hank Gensler, for three years.
Race 1: GREY BY YOU (8) should like the return to Keeneland because he won a $40k claimer here last spring. He has been running in good form and his stablemate, TRANSYLVANIA FLASH, along with at least one other should show speed to set the race up for this closer. JUMP FOR KITTEN (1A) needs a break in class to help him get closer to the winner’s circle. The KITTEN’S JOY gelding should be a major threat from the outside stalking. STRONG HUMOR (2) is powerful from the gate, and should be the one to catch in the opener today.
Race 2: STREETHOMEALABAMA (6) returns off a short break ready to run with first time Lasix for a high percentage trainer. She has the experience going two turns compared to most in this spot. PREPARED (5) was well bet on debut to run a distant third going short. Her pedigree suggests she should improve at the longer distance. SPRING INCLUDED (4) flashed early speed at first asking and could be dangerous on the frontend at 10-1 odds.
Race 3: GHOST TO GHOST (4) seems to have the stamina, and hopefully shows more speed with a bullet work at CD training center since his debut performance. COASTLINE (3) has good works and well bred to handle the polytrack. He was purchased for $190k at the Keeneland September sales. GREYFELL (6) has the best speed of this bunch, but barn removing blinkers with hopes of change of tactics??? He should be a player with the ability he has already shown over the AP poly and sharp breezes in the morning.
Race 4: TABLE THREE TEN (8) did win impressively in the mud at Parx Racing last time out. Filly should be sharp leading into this race and dangerous with her tactical speed. QUEEN’S AWARD (2) has the class, but needs the perfect trip. She should be saving ground early and make one big run turning for home. CHORTLE (10) should be forwardly placed from the gate with the shortening up in distance. A new rider aboard to help her snatch her second win over this track.
Race 5: The Grade III Woodford Stakes
GREAT MILLS (3) should be primed for success going short on the grass. He draws a good post for honest connections. STORMOFTHECENTURY (6) is at the top of his game as he goes for his fourth straight victory. He seems to handle any scenario going short whether it’s a dry or wet turf or the polytrack. HAVELOCK (8) has won multiple times over the Keeneland turf including the Shakertown Stakes last spring. He should be tough late in the game.
Race 6: The Grade II Thoroughbred Club of America
GROUPIE DOLL (6) is the 2012 female champion sprinter that captured her tenth victory last time out while breaking the track record in the Grade II PID Masters. There should be enough early pace to set up for this mare to get a repeat trip. She won this event last event by six and half-lengths then won the BC F&M Sprint. JUDY THE BEAUTY (1) draws the rail in hopes for a better trip compared to her last in the Masters. She has never missed the board in all eleven career starts. Dangerous in the mix. PURELY HOT (2) has won her last five of her six races. She ran second behind GROUPIE DOLL in the Masters. She will appreciate the turn back in distance in this thrilling event.
Race 7: The Grade I First Lady Stakes
DAYATTHESPA (6) has early speed, but doesn’t need the lead to complete the task of winning. She has eight times on the grass and was a grade one winner here last fall. HUNGRY ISLAND (2) lost the services of rider Velazquez who will be riding top choice. She raced third in this event last year, but could show more with a sharp performance in her latest. DAISY DEVINE (4) has run well of long layoffs in the past to a contender off a four month break. She has the speed to be tough from the start.
Race 8: The Grade I Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity
SOLITARY RANGER (6) was an impressive winner in the Grade III Arlington Washington Futurity last time out. He has displayed some tactical speed in his lightly raced career and has been training well. CONQUEST TITAN (9) was purchased for $475k at the sales and won easily in a gate to wire performance in his latest. INTENSE HOLIDAY (1) will break from the rail with early speed. He won by several lengths on the dirt at Monmouth.
Race 9: The Grade I Shadwell Turf Mile
WISE DAN (10) has a tough post position to overcome, but he is the 2012 Horse of the Year winning his last nine starts on the grass with his most impressive victory in the Grade I Woodbine Mile last time out. SUMMER FRONT (5) won his last two races against graded stakes company and should be rolling late in the stretch in his second start off the bench. WINNING PRIZE (1) won against easier last time out, but he did win his first race in the U.S. He will most likely try to steal this on the front from the rail.
Race 10: BRILLIANT AUTUMN (5) could get a contested pace to run into late in the stretch and get the perfect trip that she needs since he hasn’t won since last year at FG. She may be faster on the dirt, but some class relief should help her advance in today’s finale. BALLISTIC SUE (9) runs for sharp connections and should be a major player with outside speed. She may be challenged early, but expect her to be primed and ready. MACHO SUENO (2) was never a factor in her latest against tougher competition, but seems to run well against $25k claimers. She should be a contender on or near the lead from an inside draw.
