Race 1: JOJO’S GAL (6) was purchased at the Keeneland sales for $65k and hopes to offer more while returning to a sprint in her third career start for sharp 2yo connections. US DREAM (12) showed early speed and finished for show on debut. Should improve second time out with outside speed. ATHENIAN BEAUTY (2) is a well-bred first time starter with consistent breezes including a most recent work from the gate over the local surface and may be worth a look at 15-1.
Race 2: CHRISTIESBORNTORUN (10) should relax early from an outside post and make a big run in the stretch. He runs first off the claim for a high percentage stable (22%). NORTHSCAPE (2) leads into the race at the top of his game with quick early speed. STRONG RESOLVE exits a late running second over a similar surface and could be the biggest threat to top choice turning for home at 8-1.
Race 3: THUNDERGRAM (2) ran decent as the lukewarm 3-1 favorite on debut at Woodbine and expects to move forward second time out as he stretches out to a mile and sixteenth. He should be forwardly placed from an inside draw. He is full brother to graded stakes winner HURRICANE IKE. CULPRIT (1) and OOGELEY EYE (1A) both seem to have the potential to improve at second asking at a longer distance. DOBRA HISTORIA (2) made a strong middle move in his debut and should be considered a player in his second start for strong connections.
Race 4: TOP TIER LASS (9) did not run well in the slop last time out and should be tougher over a fast track as she runs first off the claim. CASE CRACKER (5) woke up without Lasix the last two starts over the AP poly. Also sharp at today’s distance. REGAL MELODY (12) is a consistent closer that leads into the race off a sharp performance.
Race 5: CHOCOLATE RIDE (2) should appreciate the extra distance after a late rallying performance at first asking. He is well bred especially for the all-weather track to make him extra tough from top-notch connections. TIU (4) will run with blinkers on most likely to show more speed, but has already shown promise running long in previous starts. SCOUT LEADER (1) needs to show more one of these days since he’s had several maiden attempts to get the job done so make sure the price is right. He does have a sharp second over poly to handle the return to the softer footing.
Race 6: LONESOME STREET (8) hopes to find the winner’s circle again since he hasn’t in the last six starts. This will be his second start off a long layoff and looking for a repeat trip when he won the 2012 Grade II Commonwealth Stakes if the pace is right. CENTRAL BANKER (6) is running in good form and also needs the right pace scenario. His tactical speed should help take him a long way. BULL DOZER (12) has run against some nice horses in recent starts and exits a sharp performance at a shorter distance. Stalker may like the return to 7 furlongs.
Race 7: I’LL CALL (4) is looking for that first win against older horses and may get it here. He’s lightly raced and in good form to make his a big threat at the distance on the grass. RIVENDELL (2) was an impressive winner here last fall to make his a major player against this group of allowance horses. Sharp work since his latest and like the rider choice. PAROLED (3) consistently runs well against allowance company no matter the turf course, but always settles for the gimmicks to throw in at 8-1 odds.
Race 8: The Grade III Phoenix Stakes
Gentlemen’s Bet (7) has won every race in his race except twice getting beat by multiple graded stakes winner, JUSTIN PHILLIPS. He returns fresh and loves the distance to make him the horse to beat. HOGY (12) is a very versatile horse to fit well with this group of sprinters over the poly today. He won against a competitive field in the PID Mile last out and goes for three in a row. LAUGH TRACK (6) ran down the sharp sprinter, ESSENCE HIT MAN, in the Vigil Grade III event last June. He returns after a big effort with steady breezes.
Rae 9: The Grade I Darley Alcibiades Stakes
RICHIES PARTY GIRL (2) appears to be the one they will have to run down late with a favorable inside post with most speed drawn to the way outside. This distance will be a big test for the filly, but runs for solid 2yo connections. MY CONQUESTADORY (7) has a classy pedigree and won her first time out against an exceptional group of 2yos. She won with class on debut and should the biggest threat from off the pace. ROSALIND (12) has already shown promise in her first two outings and gets first time Lasix.
Race 10: EMERALD CRESCENT (5) has faced several fast starter allowance foes over the PID Tapeta to be fit and ready to attack in stalking position against this soft field. PRINCE OF MADNESS (4) won the last three of four starts and should be forwardly placed from the gate to get a good start in his first attempt against open claimers. TRULY AMAZING (8) has an eye opening performance finishing second behind a repeat winner in his latest and could move forward in today’s finale.
