Katie Mikolay Gensler's first exposure to racing came at a young age, attending Arlington Park with her family on weekends when she grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She has been the racing analyst at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, Louisiana for the last three years. In addition to hosting the daily Churchill Downs Simulcast Network production of live Fair Grounds racing, Mikolay co-hosts the pre-race Fair Grounds Today show. She also contributes to FairGroundsRaceCourse.com as both a handicapper and blogger during the live Thoroughbred meeting and has made special appearances on HRTV and NBC Sports. During the summers, she performs similar duties at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania for the 100-day race meet for the last five years. As an advocate for fan education, Katie has teamed up with America's Best Racing to teach wagering and produce racing 101 videos to increase horse racing awareness. She has been married to Thoroughbred horse trainer, Hank Gensler, for three years.
Race 1: RUNAWAY BRUTE (3) gets another shot to prove he run as he takes on easier competition second time over the track. FIZZANO (5) leads into the race in top form as he moves up in class off a win over the local surface. AWESOME ATTACK (11) has early speed, but needs overcome the outside draw. Should expect a stronger performance second start off the break.
Race 2: SATURDAYATBERNIES (5) makes his second start of the meet, but needs to break sharper with a change of tactics in a race full of early speed. OFF THE PAGE (1A) will be dangerous early against this group. PURE ARISTOTLE (7) has versatility and is sharp at the distance.
Rae 3: RENEE (12) showed early speed first time out and can move forward today running for a maiden tag with first time Lasix. PRIMMENSITY (3) is bred for longer distances, but she raced evenly at first asking to improve today. MIDNIGHT ECLIPSE (1) exits a poor effort, but has two decent performances showing early speed to make a turnaround with a new rider on the rail today.
Race 4: WHATTHECATDRUGIN (1) runs with blinkers on and should like the turn back in distance. OCCASIONAL VIEW (2) exits a grade 3 event and has tactical speed to handle the longer distance. XBALANQUE (4) didn’t perform up to par last time against slightly easier competition, but has several solid efforts in previous starts.
Race 5: HOMEBOYKRIS (9) competes first off the claim for the meet’s leading trainer. He exits a sharp performance, but tries the poly first time. TOO WILD FOR WORDS (3) was the beaten favorite last time out and runs back quickly to prove he belongs with a sharp break from the gate. HOKES HOPE (10) held his own to win in his latest at KEE and should on or near the lead from an outside post.
Race 6: UTLEY (5) is lightly raced this year, but performs at his best each time. He exits a wide trip on the grass and should like the longer distance. RAHYSTRADA (6) is the class of the race and returns fresh with early speed plus he has two wins at the distance. KEEP UP (4) raced evenly in a fast pace race last time out and should show more this time around.
Race 7: SPEIGHTSHILL (10) is well bred for the distance and should be a player with powerful works for a high percentage 2yo barn. GREEN MASK (11) also has several fast works for sharp trainer with first time starters. TRIBAL MESSAGE (7) should like the distance with consistent works and a sharp rider aboard.
Race 8: MAGICAL STEPS (6) makes her debut performance in the states, but has shown solid turf form and gets a sharp turf rider aboard to be a contender in this field. EDDY GOURMET (8) runs well on the grass and should be more of a threat second time off the break with a solid trip. HOT TEMPO (7) improved in her latest and like the trainer/jockey combination.
Race 9: MAKER REIGNS (8) performed much better as a 3yo in his latest and should be a player second start off the layoff. PROFESSOR MIDNIGHT (10) posted a sharp 4f drill since his last start and will run first time tag plus barn adds the hood. NEIDERMEYER (1) showed early speed only to fade down the stretch. Could see a change in tactics with a new rider aboard.
