WEDNESDAY, April 26
Race 1: Double Ours (5) is in his best form and his early speed is an edge in this spot. Key him in exactas with Ikerrin Road, Wildward Dancer and Stormy Pacific. Exacta boxes 5-4, 5-3, 5-1
Race 2: Direct Dial (6) shows sharp local works for Asmussen, whose two-year olds have given a good account of themselves. I'm betting that Wesley Ward fired his best shots early in the meet, so I'll take a stand against him in the two-year old races today. Still, use his Day of Reckoning ina four-horse exacta box that should also include Pete Marvick and Jersey Town Cat. Exacta box of 6-8-5-3
Race 3: Rhodium (6) was very impressive in his win here opening weekend and that was her second good run over this track in her career. I'll key her in exactas with I Am Miss Brown, Delusional KK and Ultra Arumba. Exacta boxes 6-5, 6-1, 6-2
Race 4: Salmanazar (12) is, to the best of my recollection, Pletcher's first two-year old starter at the meet so despite the wide draw, I'll take this one to get the money. Tiger Beach (7) for Hancock is the one to beat, with the decision to go for a strong gate rider on this one so play those in an exacta box and then do a second ticket that keys those two on top and adds Copper Bullet, Sky Promise and Nootka Sound in the runnerup slot. Exacta box of 12-7 + exacta part-wheel 12,7 with 1,11,4
Race 5: Makarios (4) was impressive with his late run in the opening day stake and I think the extra sixteenth of a mile will serve this one well. Channel Maker (1) is the one to beat. I'll use those two in a three-horse exacta box that will also include Holiday Bonus. Exacta box of 4-1-8
Race 6: Elitch (3) takes a class drop and gets a good post position and trainer Ian Wilkes hits at 20 percent on this turf-to-dirt move. I'll use her in a four-horse exacta box with three Fairgrounds shippers--Oriental Crown, Dunk a Din and McHenry. Exacta box of 3-6-1-8
Race 7: Gorgeous Kitten (2) moves off the Derby trail and back onto what I believe in his preferred surface. Getting Leparoux in the saddle is a plus, too. Key that one in exactas with Soglio, Young American and Giant Payday. Exacta boxes 2-5, 2-7, 2-3
Race 8: Love Me in Malibu (6) finds a softer spot here and the Kenneally/Castellano combo is hard to ignore in this spot. Key her in exacta boxes with There'syourtrouble, Lyons Bay Vista, Harlons Commision and Norwegian Lady (on the angle that trainer Larry Lay hits with a longshot around here now and then). Exacta boxes 6-1, 6-8, 6-13, 6-7
Pick 4 (starts in race 5): 4,1 with 3,6,1,8 with 2,5,7,3 with 6,1,8
