    Katie Mikolay Gensler

    Katie Mikolay Gensler's first exposure to racing came at a young age, attending Arlington Park with her family on weekends when she grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She has been the racing analyst at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, Louisiana for the last three years. In addition to hosting the daily Churchill Downs Simulcast Network production of live Fair Grounds racing, Mikolay co-hosts the pre-race Fair Grounds Today show. She also contributes to as both a handicapper and blogger during the live Thoroughbred meeting and has made special appearances on HRTV and NBC Sports. During the summers, she performs similar duties at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania for the 100-day race meet for the last five years. As an advocate for fan education, Katie has teamed up with America's Best Racing to teach wagering and produce racing 101 videos to increase horse racing awareness. She has been married to Thoroughbred horse trainer, Hank Gensler, for three years.

    Race 1:  CHELLA (3) loves to win as she goes for seven wins in the row with an on or near the lead trip.  SHE’SABREES (4) has solid dirt form as she moves back to the dirt with several good efforts on the Tapeta.  The 6yo mare gets in light with the bug rider.  RUM THERAPY (6) had a bullet workout at HAW in preparation for her move back to the dirt plus she has three wins at the distance.

    Race 2:  MYSTRA (3) seems to be running better as a 3yo and leads into the race off a couple of solid efforts to be tough returning to the dirt.  RARE METAL (6) tries the dirt first time after a good try on the grass at Saratoga.  LADT ANN (4) broke her maiden on the dirt and exits a key race, which top 2 finishers came back to win.

    Race 3:  ETON BLUE (5) ran in a tough spot from an outside post to be a contender against slightly easier competition.  He gets a better draw with his regular rider aboard.  GENERAL IKE (1) training lights out for a big comeback effort after he beat 11 lengths last Feb.  He has early speed from the rail.  TARPY’S SURPRISE (6) drops in class in hopes of running better this year.  He can be dangerous on his best day, but may have lost a step.

    Race 4:  HUNTER O’RILEY (14) is the 2yo ridgling gets in he will be tough since he ran so well with a wide trip in a competitive maiden allowance race at Saratoga.  GAULTIER (11) showed speed then quit first time out and should run better with blinkers off.  SEA OF ERIN (9) was far back and made a late move at 5-1 odds first time out.  He runs with blinkers on for a sharper performance.  RANTACK (6) has been training well over the track (WR) for high percentage barn with debut runners (25%).

    Race 5:  HAVE FAITH SISTER (2) has finished in the money for the last 12 starts including a win last time.  SUGAR CUBE (7) has been a consistent runner at this level and gets a sharp rider in the irons.  She should be tough with the favorite drawn to the way outside.  MISS REDITORE (12) won wire-to-wire last time with the apprentice rider aboard. The 7yo mare may struggle with the outermost post.

    Race 6:  SILVERTOWN (3) ran second with a speed duel and should be a major player again at this level.  RANGER MAXX (4) broke from the outside and chased a fast pace to only get beat nearly 3 lengths.  He draws a better post with experience to be a contender.  BATTLE TAP (5) exits a key race, which 3 horses came back to win next time out.  He returns off summer break with good works.

    Race 7:  MISSION DRIVEN (4) should be tough late going a flat mile, which he’s 2 for 2 at the distance.  WINTER’S GIFT (6) won impressively first start in over a year, and should be on or near the lead for another good run for a high percentage outfit.  PEP THE CHAMP (9) runs first off the claim with fast works to perform sharply as he moves up in class.

    Race 8:  HAZARDS OF LOVE (5) runs well fresh and has won thirteen of his twenty-four lifetime wins at the distance to be feared at this level.  He should be forwardly placed from the gate.  EAGLE (6) was on the derby trail earlier this year, but has been given a layoff after the Lecomte then came back to run decent with a late move last time out.  KING OF NEW YORK (1) has been a sharp closer that exits a very tough spot last time out in the Travers.  He has two works to make a comeback against softer company if he can handle the inside post.

    Race 9:  QUEEN OF SCAT (4) leads into this race at the top of the game and just missed in her latest on the grass.  QUEENIE’S SONG (6) draws better for a sharper effort on or near the lead.  NANCY RIDE (7) lost by a nose behind CANDY CRUSH who came back and run second at KEE and gets the services of sharp turf rider Julian Leparoux.
