Race 1: STEEL CUT (5) has the dangerous early speed and most consistent of this bunch to be the one to beat at even money. BATTLE TALE (1) won at the distance two starts back and gets Hall of Fame rider Gary Stevens in the irons to show up today. CHERAY (3) runs well second start off the break.
Race 2: HARLAN’S HOWLING (7) has some tactical speed to take him to the winner’s circle at 8-1. SUCCESSFUL RUNNER (4) is a 7yo looking for his second win off an 8 month layoff as the favorite. ALABAMA SLIM (5) broke his maiden at the distance with a brief freshening and jockey Lanerie in the saddle.
Race 3: ASSEMBLY (4) hopes to leap forward in her second career start with a new rider aboard. NOT MIZZEN A BEAT (1) was well bet going first time long on the grass and rider was dismounted. She may be overlooked at the windows for a top barn. SQUEEZE (2) was purchased for $350k at the KEE sales and gets a top turf rider in the irons for her first race.
Race 4: BOBBY V (3) leads into the race in top form and has the ability to rate just off the pace for a solid trip. HOLLYWOOD TALENT (8) drops to the bottom in claiming tag after he was beat 11 lengths in his first start in over a year. SHERWOOD DRIVE (6) has been consistent finishing in the money for 6 starts, but will get a class test today.
Race 5: TEN SEVENTY (9) moves up in class after he ran third on the grass going a flat mile. He should like the added distance and barn adds blinkers. TRY YOUR LUCK (12) has good turf form and throw out the last race on the dirt with a rough trip. PRIVATE CLIENT (2) has the turf pedigree and a good series of works to be ready at first asking.
Race 6: FORECAST (5) exits a rough trip and ran second first time out and should move forward with a clean trip today. GATEWAY TO GOLD (6) has some sharp breezes in the am to be a contender today. UNLTRA BRAT (3) also has fast drills in the morning and runs for a new outfit first time to be more of a threat this afternoon.
Race 7: WHISKEY BRAVO (5) won his last three races and returns fresh with three works for a high percentage barn. PLATINUM PRINCE (10) also returns off a brief break with class and excellent turf form. RAY’SWARRIOR (6) could be very dangerous from the gate with his early speed if he likes the turf.
Race 8: LADY SOUL (2) raced third behind GOMAGGIEGO, who came back to win the GP Oaks. MA CAN DO IT (7) had a tough 2yo campaign hoping to succeed today in her second start as a 3yo for top connections. LINDA (6) needs a quick getaway for the right trip and should like the added distance with her late running style.
Race 9: The Grade II Elkhorn Stakes
TWILIGHT ECLIPSE (6) is the class of the race with a race to get him ready for sharp effort today. He fits well in this spot with a decent record at the distance. KAIGUN (7) is at the top of his game and appears to be the one to beat after a game effort in the G2 Pan America. UP WITH THE BIRDS (2) hopefully ready to fire off the bench. He has plenty of class and barn wins these types of races often.
Race 10: BRILLIANT BELLE (1) drops in class for the third time and hopefully succeeds at low odds. BETTYNG ON LUCY (2) looks for a better trip at second asking and 4yo may dominate today at a square price. COURT THE STORM (6) has some tactical speed, but longtime maiden needs to get the job done.
