    Saturday, April 15, 2017

Race 1:  TAKE YOUR GUNS (1) was the beaten favorite on debut and barn does well with second time starters (28%).  COMBAT CONTROLLER (4) exits his best effort and may appreciate the added distance.  SIR BALLANTINE (5) moves back up in class after a decent effort and new rider in the irons.

    Picks 1-4-5

Race 2:  SWIFT ONE (9) returns back quickly for his second start over the track after a wide trip.  NO PHONE JOE (7) has a nice work on the dirt to be a player first time over the firmer surface.  ALITTLEVODKA (3) training well and gets a new rider in the saddle for a better trip.

    Picks 9-7-3

Race 3:  CURLIN KISSES (2) won on debut and should be tough if ready off the year layoff with several fast drills to be on the lead.  SUGAR CONE (1) has raced in some tough spots and returns to the track where he broke his maiden.  AUDACIOUS ANGEL (3) cuts back in distance and hopes to shine in this soft allowance race compared to previous fields she faced.

    Picks 2-1-3

Race 4:  MALIBU BONNIE (4) was 4-1 odds on debut at the Spa and was pressured early, therefore, led to a terrible finish.  Filly makes her first start with new barn (21%).  TASTEFUL (5) was the beaten favorite at GP with an inside rally to finish second and should improve in this race.  CONNECTED FITNESS (9) has displayed a good series of works to be fit and ready at first asking plus barn wins at 32% with firsters.

    Picks 4-5-9

Race 5:   EASTPORT (2) ran a game effort to snatch his first career win at second asking and faces winners first time with solid speed figures.  SOCIETY BEAU (1) has been a consistent runner that fits well here.  CONFEDERATE (5) was involved early and then outrun in his first start in four months while eventual Fla. Derby winner, ALWAYS DREAMING dominated.  This colt should improve at 15-1 odds.

    Picks 2-1-5

Race 6:  VICI (11) performs well at this level and ran second here last April.  She returns fresh and training forwardly.  LUCK OF THE KITTEN (3) should be quick to the front for a clean trip with jockey Rosario in the irons.  REVED UP (12) has some class, but may prefer a longer distance on the grass.

    Picks 11-3-12

Race 7:  The Grade III Ben Ali

EAGLE (2) won this race last year and ready to defend his title as he makes his third start off the layoff and sharp closer has a nice workout over the track.  BIRD SONG (6) never ran a bad race except the King Bishop when he hit the gate.  The longer distance is the concern, but training very well for a big comback.  SCUBA (4) has succeeded at the graded stakes level and fits well with this group and he can run all day long if ready off the layoff.

    Picks 2-6-4

Race 8:  The Giants Causeway Stakes

PRETTY PERFECTION (10) leads into this race in winning form to be the one to beat and a bullet workout to defeat a tough field including second choice, LADY AURELIA (7), who was an impressive maiden winner at KEE last year then won a Group 1 and 2 returns off the bench with blinkers off.  EXAGGERATE (4) won this race last year and should be forwardly placed if ready off the shelf since we haven’t seen her since last June.

    Picks 10-7-4

Race 9:  The Grade III Lexington Stakes

SENIOR INVESTMENT (3) has been running well as a 3yo with his tactical speed and exits a competitive field in the La Derby.  WEST COAST (10) won at the distance last time out and prefers to be forwardly placed.  He will have to overcome the outermost post, but race lacks early pace.  NO DOZING (4) has the experience in high stakes races and exits an improved effort as he makes his third start off the payoff.

    Picks 3-10-4

Race 10:  The Grade 1 Jenny Wiley

Lady Eli (1) looked fit schooling in the paddock to make her first start of the year.  She has won three grade 1’s and should dominate this field turning for home.  CATCH A GLIMPSE (3) did her best to catch w2w winner, CELESTINE, in her latest and likely to improve in her second start of the year with a front running performance.  QUIDURA (8) won the G3 Valley View here last season and hopes to be a contender at her preferred distance from the outside.

    Picks 1-3-8

Race 11:  SHEPLAYSTHEFIELD (1) has been a sharp sprinter on the dirt for high percentage sprint barn.  VIGOR (8) displayed early pace on debut and should like the turn back in distance.  DISTORTRESS (11) has flashy works to take a look at 6-1 odds.

    Picks 1-8-11
