    Race #9

    #9 Dothraki Queen - Fair odds 2/1

    #8 Lookout Sister - Fair odds 3/1

    #1 Gomo - Fair odds 4/1

    #7 Dream Dance - Fair odds 9/2

Two-year olds can improve markedly from one race to another and there's little doubt that some can improve more than horses that beat them in previous races. However, for handicapping purposes unless there is evidence to the contrary, it can usually be assumed that with good horses they will all improve about the same rate.

That is why Dothraki Queen is the one to beat in this year's Alcibiades Stakes, being a two-turn stakes winner running in a two-turn stakes. She won in her debut at a mile on turf, no easy task, in July, then followed that up with a win in the Pocahontas Stakes last month at Churchill Downs, improving from a 67 figure to an 88 figure. Lanerie rides back and the filly won in spite of traffic trouble in both races so appears highly talented and capable of winning again.

Lookout Sister also won a stakes race, albeit at the sprint distance of 5 1/2 furlongs, in her most recent start. John Velazquez gets on for Motion, a very good sign, and off 81 and 80 figure efforts sprinting this filly bred to run even better at this longer distance (as a daughter of Giant's Causeway) could leapfrog over the top pick to win.

Gomo ships in from California for Doug O'Neill, having a HUGE year with 2 year olds, unbeaten Nyquist in his care in California and having won the Hopeful Stakes last month in New York with Ralis. Gomo continues to improve with every race, last out beaten a neck for 2nd with an 88 figure on turf, and with a runner-up effort on dirt before that the change in surface is not an issue.

Dream Dance finished 3rd with traffic trouble to Dothraki Queen last month, following a sharp win, and she continues to progress physically and mentally with each race so is another to consider, particularly at high odds, with at least a minimum win or win/place bet.
