This is the Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes, run at the distance of 1 1/2 miles on turf, referred to as a marathon in horse racing. This race is for fillies and mares. The equivalent race for males, the Sycamore Stakes, was run on Thursday, and in that race Holiday Star won for the 2nd year in a row, trained by Graham Motion and ridden by Edgar Prado. I feel that team is likely to win here as well, because Kitten's Point won the spring equivalent of this race, the Bewitch Stakes, and because she enters this race in top from off a win in Pennsylvania last month. She's one of just two with a win at the distance as well.
Trophee and Miss Chatelaine just finished 2nd and 1st, respectively, at a mile and one-quarter on grass in New York, with 110 Equibase Figures as good as the 109 Kitten's Point earned winning the Bewitch in the spring. Both are trained by top trainer Clement and get top jockeys and Miss Chatelaine won a stakes last fall as  2 year old so both have to be considered contenders today to post the mild upset.
