f you're looking to go deeper, particularly for exacta, trifecta or superfecta tickets, in which should be a great betting race, also consider #3 Toutsie Rules, #6 Asia and #9 Coco's Wildcat.
Katie O. has won 2 races in a row and FOUR of EIGHT this year. She tried turf for the very first time in her 15th career start in July and took to it like a duck takes to water, first finishing fast for 3rd then winning her last two. With her last win at the one lower NW1X level and with jockey Geroux in the saddle as today, she fits perfectly and deserves top billing.
Rap sprinted on turf for the first time ever one race before last in mid-August, winning powerfully by 2 lengths. That win came at the one lower NW2X level and in her race after that she finished 2nd at this level, so she too fits on all counts to run well enough to win.
Melaleuca is the one the rest likely have to catch to win, as both her wins have come when leading from start to finish and she has led at the start in 7 of her 9 races. The last win, on 8/12, came in a turf sprint like this one and her only knock compared to the top two picks is that her wins came at 5 furlongs on turf whereas theirs came at this 5 1/2 furlong trip.
Anusara is on the also-eligible list, which means she can run if one of the 10 horses in the main body of the race scratches (withdraws). She missed by a neck and by a half-length in her last two turf sprints and adds blinkers with the hope of helping her focus (not being distracted) in the late stages to reverses those narrow losses.
