    Kim Nelson

Kim Nelson has grown up with horses in Kentucky. She began her career with Thoroughbreds at North Ridge Farm in Lexington, KY where she worked with foaling mares and yearlings. She moved on from there to work for Carl Nafzger as an assistant trainer and exercise rider. After the birth of her daughter she changed careers to handicapping for the Daily Racing Form. Once the Daily Racing Form closed its handicapping department in Lexington, Kim was very fortunate to land a position with Marylou Whitney Stables. She is now the assistant racing and breeding manager for Mrs. Whitney.

    Race 1
#4 Dig Alittle Deeper broke his maiden last out over the turf at Gulfstream. He looks to be an improving sort.  #8 Wallyanna is making his first off the claim. His front running style makes him dangerous in this one. #3 Smoking Romance broke his maiden with fairly soft company but Beyer number suggests he belongs here.

Ultimate Shopper has only 2 starts but both efforts were impressive. #5 Good So Far is making her first start in the U.S. She gets Lasix for the first time and draws Leparoux to the saddle. #6 Tap Twenty One broke her maiden over this course and looks good enough to land a share here.

    Race 3
#3 Augusta Road broke his maiden first time out impressively. Looks like he could make it 2 in a row in this spot. #1 Twang didn’t handle the Grade 2 company very well in his last but has had the winter off. He gets Lasix this time and look for him to be sharp with these. #2 Ghostly Wonder was an impressive debut winner also but has been on the shelf since January. Still, expect him to be a player.

#8 Trawee can boast the best Beyer speed figure and certainly has the pedigree to go the distance. #4 Partyinslowmotion has a couple of races under her belt and the pedigree to be something special. #7 Twenty in One ran a decent race in her debut over a sloppy track. She has been training well over the Keeneland course.

#4 Indian Guide has a couple of nice works over the course and like that he is dropping back to 7 furlongs. #3 For Goodness Sake was claimed out of his last by the Tomlinson barn. His last Beyer number suggests he will be competitive here. #1 Rare is the morning line favorite and has the early speed to handle the rail post.

#9 Occasional View didn’t like the dirt at Oaklawn in his last out but should return to form in this spot. He is turning back to 7 furlongs and has been working extremely well preparing for the comeback. #1 Laugh Track kept very tough company last year but his last 2 starts have been a bit lackluster. Still he has the credentials to be here and has been freshened. Recent work suggests he is ready. #3 Dimension scored his best lifetime Beyer at this distance with Grade 2 company. He is a player.

#6 Havelock loves this racetrack. He is fresh and is a distance specialist. #3 Shrinking Violet likes to win races. Tough spot for the filly but she’s a tough filly. #2 Something Extra has a big Beyer number for this distance on the grass. He has been off for quite some time but still looks capable of part.

Neil Pessin took home the late double here on Thursday and he brings #9 Eden Prairie to this race. Barn is hot and this filly can run. #4 Judy the Beauty is all class and is 3 for 3 at Keeneland. Coming off the win at Santa Anita she will be tough to beat. #6 Better Lucky has competed with the best girls in the country and holds her own every time she leaves the gates.

#10 Centre Court has a recent win and this mare can go on a winning streak when she is right. She won this race last year and looks like she can repeat. #2 Stephanie’s Kitten is as good a mare as they get but she has been off since last July. But, barn is strong off the layoff and she is too. Should be a tight finish. #6 Fitful Skies turned in an impressive performance in the E.P. Taylor at Woodbine. She just missed in her U.S. debut. She will be running at the wire.

The Toyota Blue Grass Grade 1
Staying away from the favorites for the win here and going with #3 Pablo Del Monte. He has 2 wins over the Keeneland track and a decent 3rd on the dirt in the Hutcheson. He has been working very well over this course preparing and like his post position. Bobby’s Kitten likes the front end and has a high cruising speed but this full field will definitely put the pressure on him. Three wins in 5 starts and a 3rd in the BC Juve Turf though, can’t leave him out. #13 Medal Count, love this horse hate the post. He won like a really good horse here 7 days ago and could very easily come back and do it again. Just a tough post.
    .10 Superfecta Box
#3 Pablo Del Monte, #5 Bobby’s Kitten, #12 Vinceremos, #13 Medal Count, #14 Gala Award

#8 Brilliant Comet is 2 for 2 but has been off for a while. Still the Casse barn is having a great meet as is Stewart Elliot and look for them to wrap up the day with a win here. #2 Bravodino is making his U.S. debut for the Motion barn. First time Lasix and he looks like a player. #7 Mills is making his 3rd start off the layoff. He just missed in his last and should be sharp here.
