Kim Nelson

Kim Nelson has grown up with horses in Kentucky. She began her career with Thoroughbreds at North Ridge Farm in Lexington, KY where she worked with foaling mares and yearlings. She moved on from there to work for Carl Nafzger as an assistant trainer and exercise rider. After the birth of her daughter she changed careers to handicapping for the Daily Racing Form. Once the Daily Racing Form closed its handicapping department in Lexington, Kim was very fortunate to land a position with Marylou Whitney Stables. She is now the assistant racing and breeding manager for Mrs. Whitney.

Race 1

Distortionist drops from MSW company and has sharp works preparing for his return. Mr. Garde turned in a good effort last time and should be sharp off that one. Cruise Director is dropping and adding blinkers. Catalano and Lanerie team up and expect this colt to improve. Coabey could show up for part.

Race 2

New Believer is 8 for 10 at Keeneland and is hard to look past with that record. He has been off since the October meet but barn is sharp off the layoff. Believe he can make it 9 wins at Keeneland. Mr. Prankster is a very consistent runner and this is the right level of competition for him. Archenland drops from Alw company and makes his 2^nd start with blinkers added. He deserves a look.

Race 3

Hungry Island is a very classy mare but she has been off since last October. Have to keep her in the exotics but she may need a race. Exclusive Love may have a fitness edge over a couple of these. She is a solid sort and consistently brings her best game. Karlovy Vary won the Ashland here last year. She had a successful campaign last year but she too may need a race to get her edge back.

Race 4

Ten 2 year olds line up for their debut effort. Don Suave has been turning in sharp works over the Keeneland course. Pablo Del Monte is from the Ward barn and has a blueblood pedigree. Solitary Ranger has sharp work from the gate and is conditioned by Wayne Catalano.

Race 5

Villandry posted his best Beyer in his last start and he tops this field with that 94 number. He has been off since last November but Lopresti is a master of bringing a horse back to the races. Like him for the win. Patrioticandproud has hit the board 7 of 8 starts over synthetic and he is a distance specialist. Lockout has only missed 2 checks in 11 starts and is quite capable here.

Race 6

Political Courage is in good form right now. He loved the GP turf and expect him to bring that same closing kick here. Set the Sail looks well prepared for his return but did draw a tough post. Still, Leparoux is very good on this turf course and will most likely get him a good trip. Forecon is making his 3^rd off the layoff. Beaten favorite last time, he should find his stride here.

Troubadour Tango turned in a solid effort in his debut over the Woodbine synthetic. He should only improve off that one. To the Stars has 3 race experience but a tough post. Sharp work since his last and wouldn’t leave out. Simple Interest is making his first start for the Lopresti barn.

Race 8

Adriani just missed last time against similar company. Rocco returns to the saddle and he should have the confidence in her to get her to the winners circle. Gustavia has run a couple of nice races but has been off since Jan. Barn is very good off the bench though and expect her to be right there. Cat’s Holiday is making her 3rd career start and comes over with the hot Motion barn.

Midnight Mischief is the morning line chalk and deservingly so. Also like Murphy’s Covert.  The 7 year old Birdstone gelding is a tough guy and has a win over the course. Christman Punch has been turning in decent efforts over the Turfway poly.
