Kim Nelson

Kim Nelson has grown up with horses in Kentucky. She began her career with Thoroughbreds at North Ridge Farm in Lexington, KY where she worked with foaling mares and yearlings. She moved on from there to work for Carl Nafzger as an assistant trainer and exercise rider. After the birth of her daughter she changed careers to handicapping for the Daily Racing Form. Once the Daily Racing Form closed its handicapping department in Lexington, Kim was very fortunate to land a position with Marylou Whitney Stables. She is now the assistant racing and breeding manager for Mrs. Whitney.

Race 1

 

Kingsford Drive was claimed by Michael Maker last out and barn wins at 25% first off the claim. He comes in fresh and on the drop. Longhunter  turned in a good effort in his last start at Gulfstream. He has been off awhile but past form suggests he can hit the board with this bunch.  Faisal Prince is proven over the synthetic surface and he is a fairly consistent sort.

Race 2

Brink of War and Gamekeeper are coupled with morning line odds of 8-5. Will try to beat the chalk with The Sixties.  Leparoux in the saddle this time and 2^nd time Lasix for this 3 year old gelding. He drops for half and like his chances. I’m in a Hurry has an early turn of foot and consistently hits the board.

Race 3

Kid Twist has a formidable team in McPeek and Leparoux. The Malibu Moon colt drops from Maiden $75 to Maiden $40 and should improve in this spot. Posse Attack makes the same drop in class and is making only his 3^rd career start. E Pluribus has been on the board his last 2 tries and looks capable of picking up a check here too.  Steel Guitar gets blinkers this time and also drops. He should appreciate the added distance.  Conserve well beaten in his last 2 has shown stronger form in the past. Albarado is back in the saddle and note Conserve hasn’t missed a check when running on synthetic.

Race 4

Turallure returns to the races for trainer Lopresti.  The multiple Graded Stakes winning horse looks like the one to beat here. Al Khali from the Mott barn may have a fitness edge over the favorite. The hardknocking horse has held his own in top company and could pose a threat here. Air Support is making his first start back after a winter vacation. Albarado climbs aboard and he should be a part of this.

Race 5

Winning Cause at 7-2 morning line looks like a great bet. Doubt he stays at 7-2 but even 2-1 is good money for him. Fiddler Blue broke his maiden in his 2^nd start and the improving sort fits here. Ghost Hunter rounds out the trifecta at 15-1.

Race 6

Full field of maidens is always a good betting race. Tanzspiel has a couple of good races under her belt but the one hole may not work to her advantage. She still looks good enough to get part. Street Trick finished a game 2^nd in her debut and the winner of that race won her next out. Prado on board this one and like her for the win. Checkered past went a route of ground in her debut finishing a respectable 3^rd. She should be sharp here. Fanfare from the George Arnold barn gets Leparoux in the irons and that makes her dangerous. Marilyn Monroan is another that could hit the board.

Race 8

Solid allowance race on the grass. Fairly confident in Pavla to win this one and going only 2 deep.

The Ashland is very tough. Full field of tough fillies. Going 4 deep here.

Really like Gold Megillah from the Motion barn in this one along with Lollipop.
