    Kim Nelson

Kim Nelson has grown up with horses in Kentucky. She began her career with Thoroughbreds at North Ridge Farm in Lexington, KY where she worked with foaling mares and yearlings. She moved on from there to work for Carl Nafzger as an assistant trainer and exercise rider. After the birth of her daughter she changed careers to handicapping for the Daily Racing Form. Once the Daily Racing Form closed its handicapping department in Lexington, Kim was very fortunate to land a position with Marylou Whitney Stables. She is now the assistant racing and breeding manager for Mrs. Whitney.

Race 6 The Commonewealth Grade 3

Bind has only made 6 starts in his career and hasn’t missed a check. The 5 year old Pulpit horse is fast and the 7 furlong distance should suit him. Horses sired by Pulpit normally take to the synthetic surface and he has a sharp work over the Keeneland track. Hot jock Rosario in the irons. Handsome Mike has plenty of experience with Graded Stakes company . The Scat Daddy colt should appreciate backing up to 7 furlongs from the 1 ¼ mile he ran last time. Nice work over the course.  Gantry has the speed to take advantage of his rail position and the consistent gelding will likely turn in a big effort as usual. Candyman E has 2 sharp races under his belt after a long layoff and could definitely land a share here.

Race 7 The Shakertown Grade 3

Something Extra has plenty of speed to enjoy the rail post. Five of his six career wins are over synthetic. Leparoux takes the call. Perfect Officer loves the 5 ½ furlongs posting 7 of his 8 wins at that distance. He also can boast a win over the Keeneland course. Next Question is a Grade 1 winner coming off a long layoff. Sharp works preparing for his return and Rosario in the irons.

Race 8 The Madison Grade 1

Jamaican Smoke broke her maiden here at Keeneland . She ran 3rd last out in her first back off a long layoff.  She has a couple of sharp works since that one. Quite possible she can go gate to wire here. Fantasy of Flight is a very accomplished mare. She is 2 for 3 at this distance and has a win over the course. Shumoos is making her 3rd start off a long layoff. Her last 2 were strong efforts and expect her to run good with these.

    #6 Jamaican Smoke

    Cost $20

    Race 9

Daisy Devine is a perfect 5 for 5 at this distance and has 2 wins and a 2nd in 3 starts over this course.  The millionaire mare is coming off a brief freshener and looks capable of getting the job done here. Centre Court has only been off the board once in 10 starts and that was her debut effort. She should be able to break sharp enough to overcome the rail and give Daisy a run for the money. Samitar was gaining in her last out and should return here sharp off that effort.  Old Tune will probably try go gate to wire. Note she is a perfect 4 for 4 last year and 2 for 2 this year. Rosario staying on board this mare and he is having a tremendous meet so far.

    $1 Trifecta Box

#2 Centre Court, #2 Old Tune, #8 Daisy Devine, #6 Samitar

Race 10 The Toyota Blue Grass Grade 1

This is a wide open field and a full field. Horses are going need to be on their best game and hope to get a good trip. Dynamic Sky has the pedigree for the poly and the distance. Can forgive his fourth in the Tampa Bay Derby when facing Verrazano. Several horses had trouble handling the Tampa surface. He ran 2nd here in the Breeders Futurity last fall. The one hole is going to be tough but he gets Rosario back in the irons. 10-1 odds look real good too. #4 Java’s War outran his odds last time to finish 2nd behind Verrazano in the Tampa Bay Derby. He can boast the best last Beyer figure and deserves a look in here. Rydilluc has won his last 3 starts with ease. His early turn of foot should get him in to the first turn without too much trouble and he is proven at the distance. He looks every bit the part to be right there at the wire. Uncaptured finished up 2nd in the Spiral stakes and has plenty of experience over the synthetic surface. One could question if he can get the distance with this type of competition. Still his form is strong enough to considered the favorite.
