LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 16, 2013) -- China Horse Club’s Tabreed (GB), last in the early going, uncorked a powerful stretch run to win the $60,000 Blandford Purse for fillies and mares by four lengths before a crowd of 8,253 on a drizzly Wednesday afternoon at Keeneland.
Trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by James Graham, Tabreed swung to the far outside entering the stretch and swept by the leaders at midstretch to win drawing away in completing 1 1/8 miles on a turf course labeled as good in 1:52.62.
Tabreed is a 4-year-old daughter of Sakhee out of the Mr. Prospector mare Za Aamah. The victory improved her record to 11-3-2-4 and increased her earnings to $113,584 with Wednesday’s $31,380 check.
Favored in the field of 12, Tabreed returned $4.40, $3.40 and $2.40. Molly Morgan finished second under Jesus Castanon and paid $5.60 and $4.20 with Annabird finishing third under Marcelino Pedroza and returning $6 to show.
Racing continues Thursday with a nine-race program that is highlighted by the 19th running of the $100,000 Sycamore (G3) at 1½ miles on the turf. First post time Thursday is 1:05 p.m. (ET) with the Sycamore going as the eighth race with a 4:49 p.m. post time.
