Keeneland sales graduates topped both sessions at the just-concluded Tattersalls Two-Year-Old Sale in Newmarket, England, on April 17 and April 18, with one setting a European record for a horse sold at a breeze-up sale.
On Thursday, April 18, an Elusive Quality colt sold for 760,000 guineas, or about $1.2 million, to Jamie McCalmont, setting a European record for a horse sold at a breeze-up auction. Out of the Miesque’s Son’s mare Gender Dance, the colt previously sold for $120,000 to Margaret O’Toole at Keeneland’s 2012 September Yearling Sale.
A More Than Ready Colt out of the In Excess Mare Mary Ellise topped Wednesday’s session, selling for 320,000 guineas, or about $512,000, to Anthony Stroud. He was consigned at Newmarket by John Egan’s Friarstown Bloodstock, who previously purchased the juvenile as a yearling at Keeneland’s 2012 September Sale for $90,000.
