LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 24, 2013) -- Mill Ridge Farm’s Keep Up wore down Utley in the final 100 yards to win the featured $66,000 Man o’ War Purse for 3-year-olds and up by three-quarters of a length before a Thursday afternoon crowd of 8,226 at Keeneland.
Trained by Alex Clarkson and ridden by Miguel Mena, Keep Up found room to the inside of Utley in the stretch and then shook clear to complete the 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:50.88.
A 6-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Unbridled’s Song out of Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Keeper Hill, Keep Up improved his record to 17-7-1-4 with earnings of $299,382. Thursday’s victory was worth $39,600.
Keep Up returned $11.80, $4.80 and $3.20. Utley, ridden by James Graham, returned $3.80 and $3 with General Logan finishing 1¾ lengths back in third under Alan Garcia and paying $4.60 to show.
Racing continues Friday with a 10-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET). Saturday marks the final day of the fall meet.
