Napravnik rides four winners during penultimate day of fall meet
LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 25, 2013) – Evelyn and Darrell Yates’ La Song closed strongly in the stretch to post a 1 1/4-length victory over favored To My Valentine (FR) to win the featured $63,000 Nuckols Purse for 3-year-old fillies before a Friday afternoon crowd of 10,993 at Keeneland.
Trained by Wayne Catalano and ridden by Channing Hill, La Song trailed early as Brown Eyes Blue set the pace. Hill angled La Song to the outside at the head of the stretch for a clear run at Brown Eyes Blue and To My Valentine and pushed by in deep stretch to complete the 5½ furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:04.34.
A 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate, La Song is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Unbridled’s Song out of the Forest Camp mare Yachats. The filly improved her record to 13-4-1-1 and with Friday’s $37,800 check, increased her earnings to $138,936.
La Song returned $28.60, $7.80 and $4.60. To My Valentine, ridden by Dylan Davis, returned $2.40 and $2.20 and finished a head in front of Brown Eyes Blue, who returned $3.60 to show under Robby Albarado.
Rosie Napravnik, the fall meet’s leading rider with 16 victories, had the first four-win day of the season, capped off with a victory on Shmooz Talker ($5) in the 10th and final race. Napravnik’s other winners were Bustle ($7.60) in the third, Full Metal ($6.20) in the fifth and Coup ($10.40) in the seventh.
The fall meet concludes its 17-day run Saturday with a 10-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET). Highlighting the card is the 56th running of the $200,000 Hagyard Fayette (G2) at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. The Hagyard Fayette will go as the afternoon’s ninth race with a 5:21 p.m. post time.
