Marine Patrol Wins Featured Elm Tree Purse at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 23, 2013) -- Gary and Mary West’s Marine Patrol took control in deep stretch to win the featured $58,000 Elm Tree Purse for 3-year-olds and up by a length over Chairman Garey before a crowd of 7,294 on a brisk Wednesday afternoon at Keeneland.

Trained by Wayne Catalano and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, Marine Patrol covered the mile on a turf course labeled as good in 1:38.01.

Marine Patrol is a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Tapit out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Lady Solvig. The victory improved Marine Patrol’s record to 4-2-1-0 and increased his earnings to $70,284 with Wednesday’s $34,800 check.

Marine Patrol returned $9.80, $5.60 and $4.20. Chairman Garey, ridden by Joe Rocco Jr., was disqualified from second and placed fourth for interference in the stretch. Batten the Hatches was elevated to second and Middleburg to third.

Batten the Hatches, ridden by Marcelino Pedroza, returned $9.40 and $5.20 with Middleburg, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, returning $4.20 to show.

Racing continues Thursday with a nine-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET).
