Quotes from the $100,000 Giant’s Causeway (L)

Roy Jackson (winning owner of Ageless)

“It's been a while since we had a winner here. It’s always great to win a race here because it is so competitive. We're thrilled. We know (Ageless) has a good kick and she just doesn’t want to go out in front. She wants to kick on from the back.  It was a nice ride from Julien (Leparoux).

Arnaud Delacour (winning trainer of Ageless)

“She’s a closer so we thought the 5 ½-furlong distance would help her. The last time she went five furlongs (in the Lightning City Stakes on January 25 at Tampa Bay Downs), and that is not a perfect (distance) for her because she is a closer. She ran a beautiful race that day but got in trouble and finished late. We thought we would give her a chance here and we are glad we did. I knew she would have a strong finish but I did not know if she was going to get there in time.”

Julien Leparoux (winning rider)

“We had no choice from the outside post (but to come from behind). (Trainer) Arnaud (Delacour) told me, ‘Every time you try to send her close to the pace she doesn't finish’ and to save ground around the turn and try to come around after that in the straight. She had a very nice kick, she finished very strong, and we got it done.”

Joel Rosario (rider of runner-up Free as a Bird)

“Perfect trip. It looked like we were gonna get there, but this horse (Ageless) came from way behind me and we were second best today. She did everything I asked her to do, and I was very happy with the race even if we did get beat.”

Joe Rocco Jr. (rider of third-place finisher Sweet Cassiopeia)

“My filly’s coming off a layoff and she ran really good. She really ran her guts out to the wire. Just third best today.”

Javier Castellano (rider of ninth-place finisher and 2-1 beaten favorite Believe in Charlie)

“Everything worked out good except I didn’t have a better result today. She broke well out of the gate and I put her right (in position) so I could keep track of the pacemaker. She just didn’t fire today. We were covered up a little bit, but she had a perfect trip. I just didn’t have enough horse to go by.”
