Quotes - $150,000 Bewitch Stakes (G3)

You are here

Graham Motion (trainer of winner Strathnaver [GB])

“I thought she was very impressive that day at Gulfstream (winning an allowance race on March 16 in her first U.S. start). Like I said to Joel, I just wasn’t sure about the mile and a half. But clearly she handled it pretty good.”

Joel Rosario (rider of Strathnaver)

“I got a perfect trip. (Trainer) Graham (Motion) told me to just let her do whatever she wants and she did it.”

Michelle Nihei (trainer of second-place finisher Regalo Mia)

“I thought she ran an outstanding race and that (jockey) Luis (Contreras) did his best with a very fast and aggressive pace. I think we got beat by a very, very nice filly.”

On going through on the rail

“I think (Contreras) went where he saw a hole. I didn’t ask him to do anything specifically.  I did mention that when it rains a lot here (the turf course) would be deep and slower on the inside rail. But I think you have to take your spots where they come. Every decision means a lot when you are (close to winning). On another day if we had differed in paths and decisions it might have been a reverse (finish). But still we competed against a very nice (winner) today.”

Rosie Napravnick (rider of beaten favorite and ninth-place finisher Gathering)

“She was very good in the (starting) gate, which is probably the worst thing that happened. She broke so sharp that she wouldn’t relax. We had quite a bit of pressure on the front end, so she got pretty tired at the end.”
