Quotes from the $175,000 Commonwealth (G3)

Ken McPeek (winning trainer of Occasional View)

“(Running Occasional View in the race was a) complete audible at the line of scrimmage. We wanted to run him the allowance/optional $100,000 (claiming race) and the race kept not filling and then it was like, ‘What do we do now?’ We had done the nomination for this race, and we briefly thought about putting him in for $80,000 (tag) a couple of days ago. Then Bobby (owner Robert Trussell) calls and says, ‘I don’t know – I kind of like the race on Saturday.’ And I said, ‘Well I have to get out of the race on Thursday, so yeah, it was not exactly as planned. It kind of happened.”

Alan Garcia (winning rider)

“Very easy trip. My horse broke great and I was very comfortable behind the group. Then when it was time to make a run, I wanted to go wide and then come to the winner. He was ready. Kenny did an excellent job with this one.”

James Graham (rider of runner-up Dimension [GB])

"I squeezed him away and let him get comfortable. He tried to finish; the other horse just run us down. He really, really ran. He ran all the way to the wire."

Jose Lezcano (rider of third-place finisher and 9-5 favorite Laugh Track)

“He broke good, and I think I got a very good trip. He ran his race; it’s just the speed held in this race when I thought we’d be able to run them down. But he ran a good race.”

Rosie Napravnik (rider of fourth-place finisher Quiet Force)

“My horse actually broke really well. But the 4 horse (Spring to the Sky) kind of bolted to the outside and squeezed a bunch of us so we lost our position. But he settled very nicely and made a great big run at the end.”
