LEXINGTON, KY (April 2, 2014) – James Covello, Thomas Coleman and Mike Dohenney’s Testa Rossi (FR) tops a cast of 13 3-year-old fillies entered Wednesday for Saturday’s 77th running of the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) at 1 1/16 miles on the main track.
The Central Bank Ashland, which offers 170 points toward the $1 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) on May 2 with 100 points to the winner, is carded as the ninth race on Saturday’s 10-race program with a 5:13 p.m. ET post time. First post Saturday is 1:05 p.m.
Testa Rossi began her career in Europe and joined trainer Chad Brown’s barn for a fall campaign that included a victory in the Miss Grillo (G3) and a runner-up finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). She won the Florida Oaks (G3) on the grass at Tampa Bay Downs in her 2014 debut.
Jose Lezcano, who has been aboard for Testa Rossi’s three U.S. starts, has the call Saturday and will break from post position six.
The other graded stakes winner in the field is Gary and Mary West’s Room Service. Trained by Wayne Catalano, Room Service won the Herecomesthebride (G3) at Gulfstream on the grass in which she defeated Central Bank Ashland foes Candy Kitty and Seeking Her Glory.
Shaun Bridgmohan has the mount on Room Service, who will exit post position two.
The only starter in the field with stakes experience on Keeneland’s main track is Landaluce Educe Stables’ Rosalind. Trained by Ken McPeek, Rosalind was second in last fall’s Darley Alcibiades (G1) prior to finishing third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
Rosalind will break from post position eight and be ridden by Joel Rosario.
The field for the Central Bank Ashland, from the rail out, is as follows: Istanford (Joe Rocco Jr.), Room Service (Bridgmohan), Macaroon (Luis Saez), On the Backstreets (Robby Albarado), Thank You Marylou (Julien Leparoux), Testa Rossi (FR) (Lezcano), Miss Besilu (Corey Lanerie), Rosalind (Rosario), Candy Kitty (Edgar Prado), Ireland (James Graham), Saturday Bliss (Chris DeCarlo), Seeking Her Glory (Rosie Napravnik) and Resistivity (Stewart Elliott). All starters will carry 121 pounds.
