Keeneland has cataloged 125 two-year-olds for its 22nd annual April Sale, which begins at 4 p.m. ET on Monday, April 7.
First held in 1993, the April Sale has produced more classic winners than any other 2-year-old sale, the most recent being 2013 Belmont (G1) winner Palace Malice. On March 8, Palace Malice made his 2014 debut in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) and won by a head over another April Sale graduate, Grade 1 winner Golden Ticket.
On March 29 at Fair Grounds, Palace Malice returned to win the New Orleans Handicap (G2) over another April Sale graduate, Normandy Invasion. Palace Malice now has five wins in 14 starts and earnings of $1,871,135.
The April Sale also is notable in the fact that graduates include four graded stakes winners this year – more than any other 2-year-old sale has produced. Joining Palace Malice are Euphrosyne (Honeybee-G3), Summer Front (Ft. Lauderdale-G2) and Vinceremos (Sam F. Davis-G3).
